Principal Team Editorial

It has been another busy term at Wantirna College with great things happening both in and out of the classroom. In the classroom, we have been focused on quality teaching and learning with high expectations of students, not only participating in lessons but cognitively engaging during explicit instruction through ‘think, pair, share’ activities, rally calls and focused attention routines.
Outside the classroom, our facilities team have been working hard to upgrade areas of the school and we look forward to students using these outstanding facilities next term .
The B block toilets have been refurbished providing brand new, state-of-the-art facilities ready for students to use at the start of next term. Like the D Block toilets, the new B Block toilets have automated doors, full length doors, non-graffiti tiles, and increased safety measures.
Another upgrade is our new bus shelter giving students a warm, dry and covered area in which to wait for buses after school. Our SRC have been actively involved in revamping this space and have plans to install seating and a wall mural.
Along the perimeter of our school, from the Theatre on Harold Street to the end of Amesbury Avenue, our new fencing has been installed. Not only does the fencing add to the aesthetics of the school, but it will also increase the safety of the school by reducing entry points and protecting students from the road, particularly around the bus area. The new gates at the bus area will support students boarding buses in a safe and orderly manner.
And of course, our spectacular Mooroop Centre opens officially next term with students having access to the competition grade double court basketball stadium along with a dance and drama studio. We will be celebrating this long-awaited opening on the first day of next term, at 8.45am.
We invite families to come to the assembly and be a part of this special occasion.
If you would like to join us, please RSVP using this form: RSVP Mooroop Centre Assembly.
Term 2 Highlights
It would be remiss of me not to reflect on some of the memorable highlights of the term which are so important in fostering the positive culture we have at Wantirna; the NT Tour, Music Camp, Music Showcases, Uni/Tafe visits, Cross Country, Sports days, Morrisby Testing, Work Experience and City Experience to name just a few.
As I always say to tour groups and prospective families, Wantirna College is a great school due to our fabulous staff and students and the great opportunities that students are given both inside and outside of the classroom. Our staff are the most committed staff I have worked with, who go above and beyond in everything they do. Wearing both my hats, as Principal and parent, I’m grateful for the rich and diverse experiences our students have every day and the impact these experiences have in shaping our young people into the respectful, mature and resilient adults they are becoming.
All the best for a safe and restful break and we look forward to seeing everyone in Term 3.

Demolition Begins!
With the new Mooroop Centre build being finalised, the focus has turned to the demolition of the old school gym, the ECA. Principal Wallis was on-hand to see the demolition get underway this week. The bulk of the work will be completed over the school holidays, with PE classes scheduled to commence in our new Mooroop Centre from the first day of Term 3.
