KIOSC STEM Conference

Year 7

7S Proudly Represented Wantirna College

On Thursday 19 June, students from 7S proudly represented Wantirna college at the KIOSC annual STEM Communication Conference, joining peers from across the region in a day of innovation, collaboration, and community problem-solving.

The event saw students from Years 7 to 11 present their STEM projects in two high-paced presentation rounds. Students shared their work with peers, teachers, industry professionals, and community leaders. Projects addressed real-world environmental and societal challenges, with topics ranging from bioplastics and renewable materials to seasonal crop planning and the incorporation of Indigenous traditional knowledge in sustainable agriculture.

7S students spoke confidently and knowledgeably, engaging their audiences and showcasing their developing STEM communication skills. Their presentations reflected thoughtful inquiry, creativity, and a strong understanding of science’s role in addressing local issues.

A special congratulations goes to Isaac Tan, Richard Feng and Lukas Nguyen who received the award for Best Project. Their investigation into natural pH indicators explored how substances like red cabbage could be used as cost-effective and environmentally friendly tools in agriculture to monitor soil acidity. Their clear explanations and practical application of science impressed the judges and audience alike.

We’re incredibly proud of all students who took part and represented our school community with such enthusiasm and professionalism.
