College Updates

Takasago City Sports Exchange Visit

Last week we were privileged to welcome visitors from Latrobe City's Sister City, Takasago City in Japan, who attended the Lowanna College Sports Academy as part of their Sports Exchange. Eight students, four Takasago City delegate officials, two Latrobe City staff and one volunteer attended the college where they enjoyed a walk through the Sports Academy hallway and listened to a presentation about our Academy. We were lucky enough to hear from our student visitors about Japanese sports and what school is like in Japan. After the presentations, students enjoyed an AFL skills session. It was a fun and wholesome morning and we thank Latrobe City Council  for attending and organising the visit. We hope it is something that our students and visitors remember forever.

Term 3 Assembly

Our SRC facilitated a Whole School assembly with important reminders about college expectations and some exciting information about the term ahead. Students and staff also enjoyed a musical performance by two of our talented school captains, Alaynna and Daniel.

Beau Vernon Visit

Beau Vernon (Australian paralympic athlete) presented to our Sports Academy and Senior School students earlier this term about the power of empathy, resilience and mental strength in the face of adversity (and in life generally). Beau's presentation was honest and powerful for students and staff who had the privilege to listen to him speak. Thank you, Beau, for sharing your story and encouraging our students to work hard, set meaningful goals, to have empathy and understanding, to develop a growth mindset and (possibly) most importantly, to maintain a helpfulmindset.

Year 12 VM Melbourne Zoo Excursion

Earlier this term the Year 12 VCE VM PDS students went to Melbourne Zoo to learn about the community projects that the zoo undertake. They were given the opportunity to walk around and look at the various enclosures and were lucky enough to go behind the scenes to see a sea turtle shell, the jelly fish breeding program and animal skeletons. They then worked through a session where they were able to focus on different community projects they could undertake at school.

Students are now busy working on their community projects in class. Stay tuned for more information about what different groups are undertaking and the great work they are doing to raise awareness and/or funds for different causes.
