Principal's Update

Term 3 has commenced, with students settling into their classes and routines with focus and enthusiasm. Although it is a shorter term, it is certainly filled with many significant events and opportunities for our students.
For our Year 12 students, this term marks the final stretch of their secondary schooling journey. It is a crucial time to remain focused, motivated and committed to achieving their goals. We encourage all senior students to continue striving for their personal best in the weeks ahead.
This term has also brought profound sadness with the tragic loss of one of our senior students. I would like to sincerely thank the entire Lowanna College community for the outpouring of support during this incredibly difficult time. To our students – thank you for the compassion and care you have shown each other. To our dedicated staff – thank you for guiding and supporting our young people through their grief. And to our families – your support and understanding have been invaluable. These moments, while challenging, remind us of the strength and unity within the Lowanna College community.
Amidst the challenges, there are many positive things to celebrate. The recent Student School Opinion Survey results have shown improvements across all areas, with students reporting a stronger sense of belonging and a clearer understanding of the college’s expectations. These outcomes reflect the collective effort of our staff, students and families to create a supportive and inclusive school environment.
Our course counselling and subject selection processes have been in full swing, allowing students to begin shaping their future pathways. Thank you to all families who participated in our VCE Information Evening – your engagement plays a vital role in supporting informed decisions.
We are also excited about the upcoming auditions for the inaugural cohort of the Lowanna Institute of the Arts (LIA). We wish all applicants the very best as they take this exciting step in their educational journey.
A special thank you goes to our Science Department for hosting a successful Science Week, filled with engaging and thought-provoking experiences for our students. Likewise, our English Department deserves recognition for their work in coordinating our annual Book Week celebrations. We look forward to seeing our students and staff getting creative with costumes inspired by their favourite books and characters.
Looking ahead, the term continues to offer exciting experiences, including the Falls Creek Snow Camp and the much-anticipated Debutante Ball. These events are wonderful opportunities for students to create lasting memories and showcase their school pride.
Finally, I would like to acknowledge all the students who consistently demonstrate pride in our college by upholding our values and expectations each and every day. Your efforts do not go unnoticed and are deeply appreciated. Thank you for your continued support.
Warm regards,
Julia Niamh
Acting College Principal
