Parent Helpers
When helping with the children at CEPS, it is required that you wear a Working With Children’s Check (WWCC) displayed on a lanyard at all times.
If you have not got a WWCC and wish to volunteer, application forms can be found online at: www.workingwithchildren.vic.gov.au
Remember to sign in each day you volunteer at CEPS via the computer at the office. This is a mandatory requirement. You will also be required to sign out.
Teaching and Learning
English
Speaking & Listening
Students will be introduced to a new take home activity “I’m a Bookseller”. They will have the opportunity to write up a report at home about a book they have read and present their review to the class. They will also have many opportunities to share their ideas and thoughts during lessons.
Writing
In Writing, students will plan, write and publish texts that persuade and inform. When writing to persuade, students will use language features and choose words to help them assert their opinions. At the end of term students will write an information report about an animal. They will use subject specific vocabulary and learn how to present texts that are visually appealing. They will continue to improve their understanding of the conventions for spelling, grammar and punctuation.
Reading
In our daily phonics lessons students will extend their knowledge to the less common representations of sounds such as <oul>. They will practise reading unfamiliar words by applying taught reading
strategies and will discuss the meaning and origin of these words to extend their vocabulary. Students will implement strategies to help them make
connections, comparing and contrasting texts and understand different text features.
Mathematics
This Term, students will be focusing on key number skills including multiplication, division, addition, and subtraction. They will also be looking at the relationship between operations to have a better understanding of these key concepts. Students will explore 2D and 3D shapes by naming, identifying, comparing and describing their features.
Humanities
This term, our inquiry big question is “How has the way we move changed over time?” Students will generate their own questions about how things move with a specific focus on transport. We will compare transport from the past and present and the effect technology has had on our lives.
Students will develop their researching skills and complete a project to design ‘Transport for the Future’.
Wellbeing
CEPS VALUES
COURTESY RESPECT CO-OPERATION RESPONSIBILITY
Our School Values are Courtesy, Respect, Cooperation and Responsibility. Each week, all classes will engage in a Respectful Relationships session as well as discuss our CEPS Skill of the Week. These lessons will encourage the development of skills that promote our school values and the positive and personal growth of all students.
Your child may receive a CEPS raffle ticket for displaying the expected positive behaviours! Award winners will be drawn and announced during assembly on Friday afternoons.
Supporting learning from home
Please ensure that you are reading with your child every night. Students can read books of their own choice or an unlevelled reader from school. Take time to ask your child questions about the text to ensure that they are reading for meaning. Mathletics tasks are also set regularly and are related to the topics we are learning in class.
Communication
If you have any queries along the way, please feel free to contact us using our emails listed below, or you can send a Class Dojo. If any more urgent concerns arise, please organise a time to meet with your child’s teacher.
