From the Classroom

Grade 5/6 Indigenous Studies
In the art room over the last few weeks we have been celebrating NAIDOC week which ran in the July school holidays. To follow from last week's post, the Grade 5/6 students have been working on a handprint dot painting, after learning about the Indigenous culture by exploring tools and musical instruments used by Aboriginal people, and looking at symbols used to represent stories in their artwork.
Foundation Birds
We have decided that plasticine is our favourite material to create with in the Foundation room! Following our work on Indigenous studies from Naidoc week, we shared dreamtime stories about birds, including "How the birds got their colours", "Mad Magpie" and "Awesome Emu". We discussed the stories and shared our own stories with each other. Students then used plasticine and the plastic beaks and feet to make their own bird creation. How cute are they!
