News from the Chicken Coop
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!
Thanks to the wonderful families and staff who took such great care of our school chickens over the holidays. Thanks to the wonderful De Frutos, McKay, Schnieder, Ballestrin, Carroll and Dennis families for taking such great care of our school chickens over the school holidays. The chickens really miss the students during the holidays and they look forward to the duty families coming to visit them each day.
NEW! Fresh Free Range Eggs for sale!
You can purchase our fresh free range eggs for only $5 for ½ dozen. They will be available to purchase in passive play before and after our school assembly on Mondays. But be quick as they are sold very quickly!
Volunteers needed-all weekends during Term 2 are available starting this weekend 26/7/25
Each weekend and over the school holidays, school families volunteer to go on the chicken duty roster to look after our school chickens. You only need to pop up to visit the chickens once a day to check their water and food. It’s really easy and the kids love it! Duty families get to keep all the yummy eggs they collect over the weekend. An information sheet will be provided with all the details prior to your duty.
If you would like to put your name on the roster please email Mel at mkerwin@sjmitcham.catholic.edu.au with your preferred dates. First in, first choice of dates!
Lemons, Limes and Worm Juice
Delicious lemons and limes from our fruit trees are also for sale.
We are also selling our organic worm juice which is a wonderful fertiliser for your garden. It is collected fresh from our worm farms here at school! Buy a bottle for only $2 this week.
St John’s students love having the chickens at school. All the money we make is put back into buying food and other necessities for them.
St John’s is a Wrapper Free School - Help us to reduce our waste!
Please remember to pack a wrapper free lunch box for your child and help build a more sustainable school community.
Gardening with Jan!
The gardening club will continue to meet at lunchtimes on Thursdays.
Come along and say hello to Jan at the veggie garden and check out what has been growing over the holidays.
We look forward to sharing more great environmental initiatives with you throughout Term 3.
