Cinderella and Rockin’ Fellas Production Reflection

On Wednesday the 2nd of July, we did our production. It was fun but at the same time I felt nervous. The stage was big and full of people in front of us. I saw my Dad, my Mum and my sister. I tried really hard and did my best. When the classes did their songs, it was fantastic and amazing. By the end some people got tired and I also got tired. We did our whole school dance called ‘Did I mention?’ and it was amazing. After that we changed out of our costumes and back into our clothes and went home. It was a great night.

The day before the Production on July 2nd I was rehearsing our song and the dance at The Round. It was all very exciting until sunset came and then I felt nervous. I arrived at The Round at 6:15 pm. I had my costume on and I went to our dressing room. That is where I would wait until it was our turn on stage. At the end of scene 4 we were lining up back stage. I felt so nervous but we did a great performance.

On Wednesday 2nd of July, St. John’s Primary did a production on Cinderella and the Rockin’ fellas! The year five and sixes got the main roles like Cinderella, Rockefeller and Robin Hood! Those three were the main roles but there were lots of other roles that just didn’t have as many lines to read. Personally, I would have loved any role that I would have been given. We had to do lots of dress rehearsals that were really fun! We also did rehearsals that only used the props. The rehearsals took about two hours each.

On the night each class got their own dressing room. The lights were fancy and it made us feel like celebrities! We had to wait in the dressing room for a long time so we came up with some good games to play. When we went on the stage for our song ‘Helping Hand’, we could see the huge audience!

Going on the stage was very fun and we all tried to smile and find our families. At the end of the song I saw my mum and sister in the crowd! By the time we got home it was past nine o’clock! As soon as I got home I wanted to get to bed. Everybody was so tired. The next day, everyone was tired but it was the last day of school. I thought that our school production was very good this year. This term, in Art we had to draw a kitchen because that was our theme. Mrs Hill had to choose the best ones to go up for the backdrop and instead of choosing just one she chose three. It was mine, Miranda’s and Trinity’s! Everyone had a great day and a fantastic night.

“The Production is something I’ve always been excited for. Every second year we watched the grade 5/6s perform and take part in it. Cinderella and the Rockin’ Fellas was an unforgettable experience that nothing can ever beat. In the end it was a fun and incredible feeling but it was also stressful. The behind the scenes practices were fun but exhausting, the amount of effort put into it from the choreography, to all the rehearsals with my friends…it was really really FUN! Something I really enjoyed was the costumes. After a few weeks of planning, we finally got all of the costumes together. Our first dress rehearsal was when it finally felt like it was coming together.”

I really enjoyed the production! Being an Art Leader made it feel a little more special. It was a huge lead up. We practiced a lot during lunch time and learning time. We had so much fun, but sometimes we got crazy. Behind the scenes were huge. There were funny parts and scary parts. The Year 5/6 students had a special choreographer come into the school and teach as an amazing dance, which we performed together on stage. It was so fun to learn and practice. I helped Mrs Hill sorting the scenes and making the script for the start [interaction]. It was such an incredible experience to have everyone by my side. It was just amazing.

Mrs Hill's Production Wrap Up

What an unforgettable journey it has been! After months of dedication, creativity, and tireless teamwork, our talented students took to the stage and brought Cinderella and the Rockin’ Fellas to life in spectacular fashion.

This year’s school production was more than just a performance—it was a shining example of what can be achieved through hard work, collaboration, and a shared love for the arts. From the very first rehearsal to the final bow, every student involved poured their heart and soul into the process.

For some students, this was their very first time performing on stage in front of a live audience—but you would never have known it from the confidence and energy they brought to the performance. We are so proud of each and every student, and so thankful to be able to offer an experience like this—one that gives students the opportunity to discover and showcase talents they didn’t even know they had.

Whether acting, singing, dancing, creating props and backdrops and managing backstage roles, students demonstrated exceptional creativity, discipline, and teamwork. They created a vibrant world of music, magic, and rock ‘n’ roll, and their commitment reminded us all just how powerful the arts can be in building confidence and community.

To our students: we are so proud of all you’ve achieved. You have shown what’s possible when enthusiasm meets effort and you’ve created memories that will last a lifetime.

A heartfelt thank you also goes out to the dedicated staff, parents, and volunteers who supported this production every step of the way. We hope you enjoyed watching Cinderella and the Rockin’ Fellas as much as we enjoyed bringing it to life. To everyone involved— we truly rocked it!

Student Reflections from the School Production

When Mrs Hill first told us what we were going to do for our production this year l was really excited and eager to get started especially since it was my last production. When we first had our auditions the character l went for got taken out of the play but l was still happy to get the role of Magazine Reporter. When rehearsals started we would get pulled out of class a lot and get all our lines and dances sorted l was in three dances and some students had up to 4. It was fun getting all our props and costumes organized and trying different things. On the night of the performance at the Round theatre we would get into our change rooms and watch the screen in the room and wait for our cue or make fast changes into a different outfit and watch all our hard work come to life. It was an amazing night and l had so much fun.

I originally wanted to do a side role as a makeup artist but then I wanted to backstage with my friend. It was fun learning what I had to do like set up, put out props and organize everything and sorting out the costumes. It was kind of stressful but fun. I loved when Mrs Hill took us to help organize and practice for the night. My favorite thing was painting and sanding the props and fixing them up. I liked that we had a lot of stuff to do so we didn't get bored and had to do something all the time. On the night, we set up all the props in scene order and had fun with all the teachers and the cast. I felt nervous because what if I messed up or brought the wrong thing out or lost something but it was fine and went out all smoothly.

At the very start I wanted to be a backstage member. No lines, no extra dances, nothing more than necessary. I didn’t audition for a main role because I didn’t want to speak. But during performing arts we practiced scenes even if we didn’t have a role. I discovered that I really enjoyed it! So I asked Mrs Hill if she needed anyone to do a couple of lines and luckily she did.

So I had to do a rehearsal once or twice a week, and I found I liked it so much I asked again if Mrs Hill needed someone to do a minor role and once again she did. So there I was as a Band member and as a Paparazzi. I had to go hunting for a black shirt and pants for my outfit and the school provided a sparkly vest.

In the last weeks coming up to the production we did so many whole school rehearsals it became second nature. So finally the day came around. I found out I had a headset microphone and a handheld microphone (for my different roles respectively).

When we did the run throughs on the day the technicians activated my microphone too late every single time. This made me a bit nervous as I was worried it wouldn’t work on the night. As the performance started I realised you couldn’t see anyone in the crowd due to the very bright light up the back so this made me a lot more comfortable as I couldn’t see anyone’s face. It was an incredible experience and I would love to do it again.

When the production started and Mrs Hill was doing the auditions, I didn’t want to have any main role because I am not into musicals, therefore my role was to be part of the backstage crew. I participated in all rehearsals and the 5/6 song. I found the rehearsals quite tricky at times because of the dance.

I was part of the backstage team with Isaac and Jayden and we tried our best to keep things organised and running during the production night with the help of the teachers.

I wasn’t very nervous during the production because I had to just carry props, and be a wall in a scene. I enjoyed seeing all the classes do their dance and song, and I hope my parents enjoyed it as much as I did. I had a good time in the production.
