Athletics Carnival 2025

Friday 8th August from 9:30am to 2:30pm at Harold Stevens Athletics Track

I am very excited to announce that our Whole School Athletics Carnival is just around the corner, happening on Friday 8th August from 9:30am to 2:30pm at Harold Stevens Athletics Track in Coburg!

This is a much-anticipated event on the school calendar where students will showcase their skills, teamwork and sportsmanship in a day full of running, jumping, throwing and fun!

Event Overview

  • Grades 3 to 6 will arrive at school as usual and head down to the track with their teachers at 9:00am. These students will spend the morning competing in Shot Put, Discus, Long Jump, 100m and 200m races.
    • Students in Grades 4, 5 and 6 will have the opportunity to qualify for the District Athletics in their respective events.
    • Morning events for Grades 4, 5 and 6 will be split by gender and age group (9, 10, 11 and 12/13 year olds), to reflect the format used at District level. Non-binary students have been invited to choose the category they feel most comfortable competing in during PE lessons.
  • Prep and Years 1/2 will have their regular morning classes and head down to the track at 12:00pm, aiming to arrive by 12:30pm to join the afternoon fun.
  • In the afternoon, students from Prep to Year 6 will participate in a range of fun games and activities designed to celebrate movement and teamwork.

What to Bring

  • Years 3–6: Please pack lunch, snacks, and water bottles as they will be staying at the track all day.
  • Prep, Year 1 and Year 2: Students will eat lunch at school, but please pack a separate snack and water bottle in a small, clearly labelled bag that is easy to carry on the walk to the track.
  • All students will walk to and from the track, so comfortable walking shoes are a must!

Dress Code

We encourage all students to wear their House Colours and comfortable sportswear for the day. Parents, feel free to join the celebration and wear your child's house colours too!

Come and Support

Families are welcome to attend and cheer on the students. Your presence makes the day extra special!

Parent Helpers and Fun Relay Race

A big thank you to the parents who have already offered to help on the day. It is greatly appreciated! I will be in touch soon.

If you would still like to volunteer, please fill in the form here: https://forms.office.com/r/0jRTr4GrJs

Fun Family/Teacher Relay – Don’t Spill the Coffee!

We’ll finish the day with a fun House Colour adult relay race. Each team of 6 adults will pass a cup of “coffee” (cold water), along with an apron and hat, in a high-stakes, high-laughs relay. The winning team must finish with at least ¾ of the coffee still in the cup – and earns house points!

If you’re up for the challenge, register your interest in the final question of the volunteer form I shared above.

More details on event times, activity rotations and maps will be shared in next week’s newsletter.

We can’t wait for an energetic, inclusive, and fun day of sport! Let the countdown begin!

Yours faithfully,
