From the Year Prep Classroom

Welcome back to Term 3!
We’ve hit the ground running and are looking forward to a term full of exciting learning, special events, and continued growth for our Prep students. This week, our students have been engaging in a range of activities to celebrate and learn about NAIDOC Week. It has been wonderful to see their curiosity and respect as they explore First Nations culture and history.
We’re thrilled to share some very special news – a big congratulations to proud big big brother Nate in Prep G, and his family as they recently welcomed their beautiful baby boy, Beau Edward Butler. Both Miss Ross and Beau are doing well!
During literacy we're almost finished learning all our letters and sounds, what an exciting milestone! Soon, we'll begin exploring double constants ll, ss, ff and digraphs, two letters that work together to make one sound, like ck, or sh. These are an important part of your child’s reading and writing journey. Keep practising those tricky words at home as they really help support learning. We encourage families to get involved by inviting your child to write simple words, notes, cards, or even a shopping list. Every little bit of writing helps build their confidence and skills!
Over the next few weeks, we will be focusing on Addition and Subtraction. Students are learning how to add to or take away from a number, which is an important part of building strong maths skills. You can support this at home by using two dice, have your child roll them and then add the numbers together or take one away from the other. Everyday activities like counting fruit, adding items to the shopping list, or working out how many are left after using some are great ways to practise. These fun, hands-on activities help build your child’s confidence and understanding of numbers.
We’re also looking forward to two exciting events:
Grandparents’ Day – Friday 25th July - We’re so excited to welcome grandparents and special guests to celebrate Grandparents’ Day! This is a wonderful opportunity for children to share their learning, show off their classroom, and spend some special time together. The morning will begin with a liturgy in the MPB at 9:45am, followed by a visit to our Prep classroom and a special morning tea. We can’t wait to see you there!
100 Days of Learning – Friday 8th August (Week 3)
This milestone celebration recognises all the hard work and amazing progress our students have made since the start of the year. We encourage all our Prep students to dress up as 100-year-old grannies or grandpas as we mark 100 fabulous days of learning!
A few reminders for the weeks ahead:• Library Bags and Reading Satchels need to be brought to school each Friday so we can send them home with new books for the week.• Student Journals have been sent home – please return them with a comment to support our home-school connection.
A big thank you to those who have returned them already! It has been lovely to read the comments, and we look forward to adding to this over Semester Two. A little reminder ‘Learning Conversations’ are coming up in Week 6.
Thank you for your continued support. We can’t wait for all that’s to come this term!!
Warm regards,
The Prep Team
