Principals Report

Welcome back to the new term. I hope all families had a chance to spend some time together, relax and refresh, ready for the second half of the year! This term we have a lot going on in the 9 weeks that we are at school. Included in this newsletter is a ‘Term 3 Term Ahead’ document so you can see all that we will cover this term.

At mass on Sunday, Fr Michael unpacked the story of when Jesus visited Mary (not his mum, different Mary) and Martha (Lk 10:38-42). In the story Martha is busy cooking, cleaning and running around making sure Jesus has a good time, whilst Mary sits with Jesus and listens to him speak. Martha gets upset because she is working whilst Mary is not helping at all. Jesus is pleased with both Martha and Mary, showing that whilst actions (Martha) are important, so is listening to the word of God and reflecting on how this can guide the way we live our lives (Mary). Fr Michael asked, are we making time in our busy lives to pause, pray, reflect and give time to our spiritual needs? Do we live too much as Martha and not enough like Mary?

We begin this term by celebrating NADIOC Week. On Wednesday and Thursday, we have our Yr6 students, along with our Indigenous students, participating in the Bridge Walks hosted by Many Mobs and Yanda. On Thursday we wish Stevie all the best as she runs at State Cross Country at Yarra Valley. We also welcome back Mrs Caitlin Seymour from maternity leave. On Friday we have our Grandparent’s day celebration with a liturgy in the MPB, followed by classroom visits back at school and a morning tea in the Mercy Centre.

As I look through the Term Ahead, I am excited by what will take place over the coming 9 weeks. Please be aware of the following events that will arrive before we know it!

· Preps 100 days of Learning – Week 2

· Staff Spirituality Day (pupil free day) - Week 4

· Feast of the Assumption Mass with SHC – Week 4

· Book Week Parade – Week 6

· Father’s day – Week 7

· Sacred Heart Breakfast and R U Okay Day – Week 8

· Sacrament of Reconciliation (Yr3’s) - Week 9

More information about these events will be shared in the coming weeks.

I hope all families are getting back into the ‘routine’ of school life, and I look forward to a wonderful term together at Sacred Heart.

Take care and God Bless,

Jarrod
