Devotion

One of the most special things about being part of a school like ours is the deep sense of belonging. It’s something I feel every single day - through warm smiles at Kiss and Drop, the high fives in sport lessons, and the quiet moments of connection with children, families, and colleagues. It reminds me how powerful it is to be known, to be seen, and to be valued - not just by each other, but by God.

Brene Brown described it beautifully when she said:

“Connection is the energy that exists between people when they feel seen, heard, and valued.”

Whether we are in the classroom, out in the yard, or out on the sporting field, we are always a part of something far greater than ourselves. In sport especially, we learn the magic of unity - working together, encouraging one another, and showing up for our team, even when the scoreboard doesn’t go our way. (Carlton fans, I see you… meanwhile, must be nice, Crows fans…!)

Sport teaches us important lessons that shape who we are. Resilience when we fall short. Bravery when we keep going. Friendship when we uplift and support each other.

And it’s in those moments - on the court, in the classroom, or walking through our school gates - that we are reminded: we belong. To each other, to this community, and most importantly, to a God who created us to live in relationship with others.

The Bible speaks of this kind of unity beautifully:

“Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ.”

—1 Corinthians 12:12 (NIV)

Every person in our community has something special to offer. We are each unique, important, and deeply valued. When we come together, we create a community that is strong, full of life, love and laughter, and I feel truly grateful to be a part of it.

Let us pray:

Loving God, thank you for the gift of community. Help us to be thoughtful teammates - kind in our words, brave in our actions, and generous in our encouragement. Teach us to welcome others with open hearts, to carry one another’s burdens, and to find joy in the strength we share. May we grow together, always united by your love. Amen.
