Principal's Report

Dear Parents,

WELCOME BACK

Welcome back everyone! I trust that everybody had some quality time with family and friends and kept warm! Term three is an exciting term for Woori Yallock P.S. The grade 3/4 camp to ADANAC, the snow trip, hoop time and we will be running a junior school and senior school dance concert towards the end of the term. The school will continue working on it’s improvement priorities, which are reading comprehension and spelling. Results so far are very pleasing with lots of growth in these areas across the school.

NAPLAN

Last week we were given the results of the NAPLAN tests the grade 3's and 5's completed in March. The school once again received outstanding results. Out of the ten categories we are judged against we were higher than similar schools (same size and same demographic) and network schools in all ten measures. We were also higher than the state average in all ten categories which is the first time we have achieved that. The results this year are simply amazing and as always, I thank our students, parents and of course our teachers for their dedication, to make our school the high performing school it is.

ENROLEMENTS FOR 2026

I believe that as our teachers continue to do an ‘outstanding’ job with our students we will continue to be the destination school for local families. This year we have already capped our numbers in the 5/6 area and have had to say ‘no’ to some families that wanted to enrol their children from outside our zone. Along with our school’s leadership team, I will begin planning for next year this term (time flies). If you know of any families that wish to enrol for the 2026 school year, please ask them to fill in the paperwork ASAP. The cut off day for Prep enrolment paperwork was last Friday. Unfortunately, we already know that some families from outside our school zone will miss out on a place at our school. The rules are: In zone families get a place, siblings of students already at the school get a place and then it is the next closest to the school from outside of our zone. It is good however, that we are still able to offer some of our out of zone families a place.

OSHC EDUCATORS DAY

Outside School Hours Care Educators’ Day - Wednesday 30th July 2025 This year’s theme for Outside School Hours Care (OSHC) Educators’ Day is “Recognition and Appreciation”. The Woori Yallock Primary School, OSHC Educators play an important part in our community by providing safe and engaging programs which support families to work or attend to other commitments. We would like to recognise the significant contribution our OSHC educators and program leader make and thank them for their tireless work within our OSHC program and the wider school community. When you see our OSHC team, Mel, Mel, Evette, Tilly and Holly, make sure to let them know how valued they are and your appreciation for all they do.

CONGRATULATIONS

To Dixi Shaak Taylor and Jobe Ormsby who represented the school in the Wandin and District inter-school speech competition! We have a fantastic history in this competition and our students this year did not let us down with wonderful speeches that were delivered to a very high standard. Dixi spoke about the issues around grooming kids for online gambling. Jobe spoke about the ANZACS and proudly showed off his grandad’s uniform.

Dixi was the overall winner on the night and will go through to the final where all the winners of all the districts compete.

I would like to thank all the students, parents and staff that came to the competition on Thursday night to support Jobe and Dixi.

STEPS MORNING TEA

This week I had morning tea with all of last terms ‘Steps’ winners. We all ate lots and had a ball. A big thank you to our chef Sandy! And congratulations to all the steps winners for following our school values of ‘High Expectations’ and ‘Respect’.

Have a great week!

Please remember we have a curriculum day on Friday 8th of August.

And remember when life gets a little difficult, escape to the wonderful world of a book! My Favorite read for quite some time was another Judy Nunn book ‘Black Sheep’. If you can get your hands on a copy, I highly recommend it.
