Foundations: Connection to God through His Creation

This term, the focus for Brooklyn Park assemblies is learning about God through His amazing world.

“If you want to learn, then go and ask the wild animals and the birds, the flowers and the fish. Any of them can tell you what the Lord has done. Job 12:7-9”

With this in mind, the Foundation students started their Bible unit, sharing ideas on how Science is connected to God. These were some of the responses:

God can do Science. (Elysia)

God made me (Gianna)

God is made out of ideas. (Larry)

God made the rain (Flossie)

God is like the dad of Science. (Rosie)

God made water to drink. (Howie)

He is good at making stuff for the world. (Ashton)

God made flowers. (Jessica)

God knows everything. (Asher)

God made people. (Leo)

He made Science. (Jacob, Devina)

God made insects. (Charlie)

You can experiment with God. (Mackenzie)

God made lights and thunder. (Ted)

We can tell people about science when they don’t know, just like we tell people about God when they don’t know. (Riley)

God made the whole entire world. (Heidi)

God is made out of the Holy Spirit. (Cerys)

God made Science. (Yu)

God is smart. (Shiloh)

God made an octopus. (Eli)

God is made out of Science. (Addison)

God made people. (Gabi)

After the discussion, students were invited to draw their four favourite things which God created. We hope you enjoy these sample drawings, and invite you to continue this discussion at home and when you are out and about!

“The heavens keep telling the wonders of God, and the skies declare what he has done.” Psalm 19:1

Celebrating 100 Days of Learning in Foundation

Last week, our Foundation students reached a huge milestone — 100 days of school!

To celebrate, our amazing Foundation teachers created a fun day full of creativity. From making delicious fairy bread topped with ‘100s & 1000s’, to crafting colourful headbands and playing the ever-popular game of Keepie Uppie - the celebrations were fun and on theme!

Congratulations, Foundation Giles and Foundation Sweet, for reaching this milestone — what a fantastic journey so far!

Brooklyn Park Debating Update

This year, Brooklyn Park has entered five teams into Debating, two from Year 5 and three from Year 6.

Debating gives students real-world experience by taking their learning from the classroom and testing their skills against other schools in front of a live audience of parents and teachers. They also receive valuable feedback from experienced adjudicators.

Debate topics have ranged from light-hearted statements such as “Cats are better than dogs” to more formal propositions like “That wearing a tie in the ACT Legislative Assembly should be compulsory.”

Our students have boldly put themselves forward for public scrutiny, refining and improving their arguments and delivery with each new debate, and applying the feedback they’ve received.

A big thank you to our parents for their ongoing support at home, as well as for managing transport logistics to and from each debate!
