Welcome back! I hope you had a restful and refreshing break and are ready for the exciting term ahead. It’s a joy to see our students return with smiles on their faces, eager to reconnect with friends and engage in new learning experiences.
As we begin this term, I am reminded of the strength and spirit that make our school so special. Living Waters is more than just a place of learning: it’s a nurturing community where every child is valued, supported, and encouraged to flourish - academically, spiritually, and socially.
Our current value focus is being Adventurous. Speaking to our students last week, we focused on being curious to demonstrate that they are adventurous. I asked them when thinking about problems or issues to ask not only how, when, where, what, why, but to be curious and ask what if? I explained adventurous is not just leaping off tall buildings and exploring the wild but is also being willing to work in your challenge zone. If you’d like to learn more about being adventurous at Living Waters check out the Free to Flourish documents https://growingdeep.lutheran.edu.au/index.php/free-to-flourish/
Term 3 is always a dynamic and rewarding part of our school year, and we’re looking forward to many wonderful opportunities to learn, grow, and come together as a school community. Here are just a few key events coming up this term:
3/4 Nest Camp: Next week our Nest students will be heading out to Ross River for their camp.
Student-Led Conferences (Week 4 – Wednesday 6 August 3:00pm): A valuable opportunity for your child to share their learning journey with you. Conferences will be held in your child’s classroom.
School Photo Day (Week 4 – Friday 8 August): Please make sure your child is in full school uniform (no coloured sports polos). Further information has been sent home via Seesaw and hard copy note with details about photo packages.
Book Week (Week 6): Always a favourite! This year’s theme is "Book an Adventure." We encourage students to dress up as their favourite book characters for our Book Week Parade at assembly on Friday 22 August and get involved in a range of literacy-rich activities throughout the week.
Year 6 Canberra Camp: Our Year 6 students will travel to Canberra later this term to explore our nation's capital, learn about government, and enjoy a week of adventure and independence.
Alongside these events, our learning programs continue to grow stronger. Our staff remain committed to nurturing every student’s academic progress, wellbeing, and faith development. Worship services will continue on Wednesdays at 8:30 am, and families are always welcome to attend and worship with us.
Thank you once again for your ongoing support and partnership. I look forward to sharing a vibrant and fulfilling Term 3 with you all.
Blessings,
Lisa
Last week in worship we had fun acting out the Parable of the Good Samaritan. Our version included sword-wielding bandits, a very believable injured traveller and a somewhat rogue donkey. Hopefully the message still got across!
The Parable of the Good Samaritan is one of the more well-known stories Jesus told. You can read it in Luke 10:25-37. A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho when he was attacked by robbers and left for dead. A priest came walking along the road but passed by on the other side. A Levite who worked in the temple did the same thing.
Finally, a man from Samaria came along. Jews and Samaritans did not usually get along or help each other. But this man stopped, had pity on the man and bandaged up his wounds. Then he put him on his own donkey and took him to the nearest Inn where he offered to pay any expense to ensure he was well cared for.
Jesus asks his listeners which man acted like a neighbor to the one who was injured. The answer was obvious. ‘Go and do likewise,’ he said. There are many lessons we learn from this story. First, we are encouraged to be Good Samaritans to others, to help those in need regardless of who they are. Second, we are encouraged to be grateful for the Good Samaritans in our own lives, the people who have assisted us in our times of need.
Finally, we learn something about the way God acts towards us. He is compassionate and kind, entering our world through Jesus to meet us in our need, loving us, forgiving us and helping us on our way. He is the ultimate Good Samaritan, and we are blessed to know him. Who can you be a Good Samaritan to today?

At Living Waters, we highlight different families and staff members to pray for each week. Praying for people in our community by name shows that we care for them as God does. He knows and loves each of us individually, and when we lift others up in prayer, we recognise their value in His eyes. This strengthens our community by bringing us closer together, reminding us to support and encourage one another.

School Start and Finish Times (8:20 am – 2:50 pm)
Children should arrive at school by 8:15 am at which time teachers collect and take children to class in readiness for roll marking.
It is vitally important that children arrive at school on time, please. Every minute of learning/classroom organisation is important for each learner. Your assistance in helping us by having your child at school by 8:20 am will be most graciously appreciated. To that end, school commences at 8:20 am sharp, each day. If your child arrives at school late, they should present for a late pass at Reception.
Uniform Standards
Parents are reminded of the need to ensure that the wearing of uniforms are in line with the school expectations.
Particularly, we would draw your attention to the following areas:
Students' hair is to be kept clean, neat and tidy, off the face; of natural appearance, not dyed, tinted or bleached. Hair below the shoulders needs to be tied up at all times.
Black shoes should be plain, conventional and well-maintained.
Students may not wear any makeup at any time.
Girls may wear plain gold or silver studs or sleepers only.
Our students have a responsibility to uphold the ethos of the school, and to show pride in their school by wearing the uniform correctly – both at the school and when in the community. Your support in this regard is greatly appreciated.
If your child is going to be away from school and you have already ordered canteen, please ring or email reception by 8:30am so that your child’s order can be held until they return to school.
The canteen is open all week except for Thursdays.
To order, simply download the School24 app and use School ID: 2513 7963. Orders are due in by 8:20 am each day.
Please remember that all canteen orders require a bag. Separate bags are needed for first and second break. You can purchase paper or reusable bags through the School24 app when ordering. Please check the 'bags' section of the menu. Students are also welcome to use a lunch bag purchased from elsewhere or brought from home - make sure to clearly label it though.
Ness in the canteen is always looking for volunteers to help out, particularly on Fridays, but anytime you can give would be much appreciated. To register your interest please email Ness at lwls.canteen@ntschools.net.
