Literacy
In Reading, we will:
- Reflect on ourselves as readers
- Enjoy a shared reading experience of The Last Bear by Hannah Gold and reflect on the text to discuss themes and share our thinking - this links to our Unit of Work: ‘Creating a Better World’
- We will explore what engages us, texts and authors we love and book choices we make to maintain a love for reading and expand our knowledge and curiosity of our world.
- Self-reflect on reading and actively engage in conversations to set and monitor reading goals and work purposefully towards achieving them
- Use a variety of mentor texts to explore and explain how the text structure, language features, images and vocabulary are used to engage the audience and clearly communicate the author’s message.
In Writing, we will:
- Reflect on ourselves as writers
- Explore the language, structure, and features of persuasive texts and use this knowledge to present our own points of view
- We will explore authors that we admire and notice what we can learn from them and borrow in our own writing
- Use our Writer’s Notebook to capture ideas, events and moments important to us or our curiosities about the world around us
- Use a variety of strategies to identify writing intentions and rehearse/plan writing
- Understand that the writer shows respect for the reader by applying what is known about conventional spelling, grammar and punctuation.
