Camp Program
This week I had the absolute pleasure of accompanying the Year 6 students to Camp Coolamatong (Paynesville).
This is the first camp that will go out this year and is part of a rich and exciting camp program.
Camps are a wonderful learning opportunity for our students, helping them to develop a range of skills including: persistence, resilience, confidence, cooperation, team work, safe risk taking, independence and social skills. Our students are challenged in activities that we are not able to offer them at school. The Year 6s for example participate in canoeing, paddle boarding, sailing, raft building, tubing, rock climbing and archery.
I addition to the great experience we have had this week our students also have the following opportunities:
Year 4 - Camp to Arrabri Lodge
Year 5 - Trip to Sovereign Hill (Ballarat) - attending the 1850s school program
Year 5 and 6 - Human Powered Racing Team in Maryborough (optional program for interested students)
Year 6 - Ski Camp to Mount Buller
Year 6 - Trip to Northern Territory visiting the Yipirinya Indigenous School (optional program for interested students)
None of these programs could run without the support of our staff and parents. This week for example we had five staff members and two parents volunteer their week to support our students, thank you to Rachel Bates (parent), Nick Bugeja, Annaliese Byrne (parent), Bree Davey, Cadell Duke and Jess Worboys for their company and dedication to our students in an exhausting yet exhilarating week.
We look forward to implementing the rest of our program throughout the year.
The Year 6 students will share some of their experiences and reflections next newsletter.
