What’s Happening in Careers?
I was able to attend the annual CDAA Career Connect Conference at Notre Dame University on Friday, 9 February. This is a really important event as it is the first time we hear from all of the universities about what the year holds and any major changes, as well as updates from TISC and information about the future of work. The attached newsletter at the bottom of the page has a good write up of the information shared. There are some great new courses and assured pathways.
Portal for Careers
A reminder that we have our new portal for Careers set up on SEQTA. It is are updated regularly with news and opportunities and is a great resource. We hope that it helps people to connect with relevant information.
TISC
TISC will open on 1 May.
Early Offers will start after the Semester One exams and most offers are conditional on meeting requirements. These will be laid out in their offer letters.
Offers will be sent out once per month from July to December.
We have TISC coming to present on 7 May and I will run another session with the boys on completing their preferences on 14 May.
If they are intending to apply for university, they will need to apply through TISC. Registration is online and a fee of $92 is payable before they can set up their preferences. These preferences can be changed as many times as they like before the offers round.
Offers will be out before Christmas.
University Information
The universities have all listed their Open Days – put them on the calendar now! It is really important that the boys get on campus and ask lots of questions before they make final decisions.
The universities will be at Mazenod to provide information to the boys in MyPath sessions and will be in attendance at our Mazenod MyPath Careers Expo on 18 June. Year 12 students will also have the opportunity to book individual consultations with university course advisors on campus here on 9 August.
Murdoch University Open Day
Medicine and Dentistry
There are a few more requirements for students planning to apply for medicine. These students have been asked to let me know their intention so that I can make sure they get the information they need. We have a representative from Curtin coming in to speak to these boys about the process on 7 March. There are a number of options to study in this field, so it is worth coming in to see me to discuss these.
The Careers Department
Students in Year 10, 11 and 12 have access to The Careers Department. There is a huge wealth of information on this site, where students can explore industries in depth to find out more about the careers and industries they are interested in. It also has a resume builder, digital portfolio, virtual work experience, scholarship finder, job finder and micro credentialling opportunities. So much to explore!
As parents, you also have access to these resources. Your account will be linked to your son’s account, allowing you to explore together.
There are two ways to connect to your son’s account.
1. Students can invite their parents from their 'Profile' > 'Your account' > scroll to the bottom of this page and add their parents email address.
2. Go to the login page and follow the prompts to set up an account. Once inside, you will be directed to explore the site and link to your child's account. Your child should already have an active student account, so you will not need to pay for the platform. If he hasn’t registered, do this first. You will need to enter the correct email address according to your son’s account and your son will need to accept the connection.
Year 10
The Year 10 students have all logged in to The Careers Department and completed profiling activities to identify areas of strength and interest and how these might make them a good fit for particular career areas. They have also had an opportunity to explore a number of industries through the online resources. Ask them about this and have a look with them!
Year 11
The Year 11 group have been introduced to the course for 2024 and how to seek help as they progress through the process. They have also accessed The Careers Department resources and a reference OneNote which they will use this year.
Year 12
These boys have been given an overview of key dates and how the course will be structured this year. They also have access to a reference OneNote which contains the information they need.
Careers Newsletter
There is plenty of news so please have a good read and enjoy!
