F1 in Schools National Finals

Best of luck to Team Aiolos ahead of the F1 in Schools National Finals! This team of Year 10 students is making its way to Adelaide this weekend for the competition.

F1 in Schools Coordinator, Peter Russell is thrilled for the team and their incredible opportunity.

"These students have been working tirelessly over the holidays and since the start of the school year to fundraise, gain sponsorship, and prepare all competition elements for submission. A colossal amount of work has been undertaken by Team Aiolos."

F1 in Schools is the world’s largest STEM competition for students, challenging them to build the fastest miniature Formula 1 car. This challenge goes beyond engineering- it's an entrepreneurial journey too! If successful, Team Aiolos could advance to the F1 in Schools World Finals later this year, coinciding with a Formula 1 Grand Prix.

VCE Art Excursion

Our Year 11 and 12 Art students recently took to the city to take in Triennial at NGV.

2024 College Arts Captain, Gus Bitting shares the highlights, value and inspiration of the experience.

"The NGV Triennial and Buxton Contemporary Exhibition were both exciting in their own way. Buxton showed how small art can be altered into fine art. With the meaning of struggle and hard work behind every art piece. An absolute must see in my opinion.

But the NGV was amazing for someone willing to explore what is new in the world as it is filled with 120 artists, designers and collectives at the forefront of global contemporary practice which can only be explained as an eye opener. Exploring Triennial has been a highlight of my year, as it displayed to me the different types, styles, materials, techniques and meanings towards artwork.

One of my personal favourite was by Swiss artist Franziska Furter, as she develops the idea of how humanity depicts nature's most brutal force there is in ‘Hurricanes’. In ‘Liquid Skies’ she has a captivating weather map on the floor as a carpet, showing how humanity has come to a point where this is how we interact with nature. But in a juxtaposition way; if you look up you see want seems to be icicles dangling from the ceiling. But after closer inspection, you see how they are rain drops frozen in time, displaying the real interpretation of nature.

Overall, these exhibitions are astounding for all people, who shouldn’t miss the chance to see it.”

"The 2024 art excursion can be summarized in a single word: fantastic. Our trip allowed us to explore the Triennial at NGV and Nadine Christensen at Buxton Contemporary. This day trip was a turning point for me as it opened new ways for me to view art and interpret things.

One of my personal favourites was Confessions by Richard Lewer, which was a deep and complicated way of telling a story by providing deep secrets and feelings and writing them down. Additionally, Yoko Ono's Mummy Is Beautiful had a very kind message of just saying what you love about yourself and your mother or mother figure.

Overall, the experience we had on the art excursion is one I will never forget, and I would recommend it to anyone. Even if you aren't interested, take a look, and you will not regret it." Angus Richardson, Year 11

Our Top Twelve senior players have now been invited to participate in the new St Bede's College Golf Program which will run weekly ahead of the Open ACC Tournament in May. These players will work closely with both playing and teaching golf professionals at Rossdale Golf Club, hopefully priming them to take out the much coveted Open Champs.
