Mission Action Day 2024
Friday 22 March
Students and staff of St Bede’s College will participate in our annual Mission Action Day (MAD) to raise funds for the Lasallian Foundation and De La Salle Mission schools in Papua New Guinea, Pakistan, and other identified works in need.
Our students have learned of the importance and impact that our support - financial and prayerful - for our Lasallian brothers and sisters amidst the ongoing challenges of life in developing communities and countries. The provision of education is vital in ensuring that these students will have a future filled with opportunities and possibilities.
The College Captains have set this year's fundraising target at $90,000! To do this, each student is tasked to seek $50 in sponsorship for their 10km walk they will complete on Friday 22 March.
With your support at home and via your family and friend networks, we're very confident that we can meet this mission! Donations can be made via student links or to the overall fundraiser here.
Former Lasallian Community Leader Recognised
Chester Ryan (Class of 2019), a former Lasallian Community Leader was the recent recipient of the Australia Day Medallion. It is pleasing to see that his service to the community has continued and been recognised.
“I wasn't expecting this to happen. I got an Australia Day Medallion presented to me by the Warrant Officer of the Air Force yesterday. It's because I've been on heaps of public facing roles, exercises and operations. Cannot believe it!!!”
Our congratulations to Chester on this wonderful recognition.
The Liturgical Season of Lent
During Lent, we are encouraged to pray, fast and give to others in need.
When we were children, we might think of fasting as giving up something that brings us pleasure like chocolate, fast food, soft drinks, or other treats. As we mature, we understand that we can take a different, more meaningful approach to fasting.
Pope Francis encourages us to fast from certain personal behaviours and attitudes that will make a big difference in the lives of others.
Fast from hurting words and say kind words.
Fast from sadness and be filled with gratitude.
Fast from anger and be filled with patience.
Fast from pessimism and be filled with hope.
Fast from unnecessary worry and have trust in God.
Fast from complaints; contemplate simplicity.
Fast from pressures and be prayerful.
Fast from bitterness; fill your hearts with joy.
Fast from selfishness and be compassionate.
Fast from grudges and be reconciled.
Fast from words; be silent and listen.
