In the Art Room...
This week grade 5 & 6 students commenced drawing a self portrait of themselves, blowing a bubble using a balloon as a prop. Grade 1/2 created artwork through play using different materials and techniques with an emphasis on creating through sensory experiences and student centred learning.
Grade 3/4 completed their ART 2024 title page in their art books and created a page "All About Me."
Art club is on a Tuesday lunchtime and certain grades will be allocated their own timeslot. Last week was grade 1/2, this week was grade 1/2 and 3/4's. Next week will be grade 5/6 turn.
Art extension commenced this week during Wednesday lunchtime, where certain grade 5 students participated in a photography session at the Hamilton Botanical Gardens using the new iPads. These photos will be entered into the Cavendish Redgum Festival 2024. These student will also be spending time in the art room on a Wednesday lunchtime using paints, charcoal and different mediums to create artwork for the same festival.
Ms Brown will be covering the Redgum Festival topic during lessons so all students have the opportunity to entre a piece into the student exhibition also.

MUSIC NEWS
This week, Preps danced, sang songs, and played instruments to the beat.
The 1/2s sang, and played rhythm patterns by reading music notes.
The 3/4s played percussion instruments in the style of music called “Funk”.
The 5/6s played ukuleles, and made harmonies with chords to Blues music.
CHOIR
On Tuesday we had our first Choir rehearsal, which was really great. If anyone in grades 3 to 6 would still like to join, they can come along at Tuesday lunchtime.
INSTRUMENTAL PROGRAM
There’s still time to sign up for flute, violin, piano or drum lessons here at school, so please pick up a form from the front office, fill it in, and bring it back to school as soon as possible.
MUSIC AWARDS
Everyone worked very well in Music again this week, so well done everyone. The Music Awards go to Fraser Alexander in 1/2A for reading music notes excellently, and to Atticus Kahukura Apuwai in 1/2B for a joyful attitude in Music this week.

PE REPORT
This week all classes have loved their PE and despite the warm weather earlier in the week, all students continued to try their best in each activity.
This week all students continued to focus on Athletics with our annual Athletics carnival less than 3 weeks away.
The events we trained for this week were hurdles, high jump and shot put. All classes demonstrated great technique throughout each event practice.
It is fantastic to see the great attitudes from all classes this week, and I know we are looking forward to next week’s lesson already where we will continue to get ready for our Athletics day. Be prepared it will be another hot week for PE.

🏑Hockey Roadshow/ AFL football clinic🏉
A great day for some very lucky Gray St students today.
Our Year 1-4 students had the opportunity to participate in a Hockey Session with a chance to discover a new sport. Thanks to some Hamilton Hockey representatives for taking the sessions.
All students had a great time.
Our year 4 students also headed to Mitchell Park for an AFL football clinic with the Geelong Cats. They loved this opportunity with students returning to school with beaming smiles.
It is fantastic to have these great sporting sessions for our students. 🏉🏑
STEM
All students this week started their biological science unit in STEM.
The Preps went for a walk around the school to identify living and non-living things and then drew pictures to show each.
Grade 1/2 students looked at external features of animals and drew labelled diagrams of different animals.
Grade 3/4 students looked at ecosystems and explored the Daintree Rainforest. They got into small groups and discussed some key questions about the Daintree Rainforest.
Grade 5/6 students looked at six different biomes. They had to research the different animals, plants and climate in each.
Friday STEM Club continued this week, which is offered during every Friday between 1:30pm and 2:00pm. It is currently opened to grade 5/6 students.
