The Learning Partnership – Supporting Learning at Home
The Learning Partnership that we so often speak about at Lyndhurst, is represented in our new logo, above, that shows the connections between, the educators, the students and our community. You, as parents and carers, have an important role to play in supporting the work of the educators and your child’s learning. There are so many ways in which you can support your child’s learning, most importantly, by modelling a positive attitude to school and learning and by having aspiration for them. Parents often equate supporting learning at home with the word “homework”, and yet the research tells us that homework has little or no positive impact on children’s learning progress. In fact, done poorly with unrealistic expectations and pressure to perform, can actually have a negative impact. In this document, we give you just a few suggestions on how you as parents and carers, can have a positive impact on your child’s learning in ways that encourage improvement and growth and develop strong learner characteristics such as curiosity, perseverance and self-reflection.
