Reading

Writing

Octavia students are working on writing their own narrative. The students began by exploring different narrative genres and chose which one sparked their interest. Many  were keen to write in the horror/suspense genre. They have been analysing clips from ‘Finding Nemo’ as an example of how to structure a plot when writing a narrative. Our students are keen to get their first draft finished so they can move onto editing and revising, and finally onto publishing.

Mathematics

Number

Octavia students have been focusing on building deeper understanding about the properties of numbers. They have explored the differences between prime and composite numbers, and learned about square and triangular numbers. Additionally, students studied different patterns and rules (i.e. the Fibonacci Sequence) and attempted to solve the frog jump challenge.

Applied

Grade 6 students learned about time in our applied maths lessons. They created timetables to plan for their weekly learning at AHPS that calculated elapsed time. Students also revised how to convert between 12- and 24-hour time.

Inquiry

SEL

In Social and Emotional Learning, the Octavia community has learned more about emotional literacy. Students were able to describe different ways to express emotions and the relationship between emotions and behaviour through collaborative role-plays.
