We are learning to write sizzling starts to a persuasive text.

VOCABULARY

Persuasive text: Writing with the goal of convincing readers to change their opinion of a topic. 

Sizzling Start: An exciting opening that immediately grabs the reader’s attention and gets them to keep reading. 

Persuasive Techniques: Strategies used to help convince people such as (dialogue, rhetorical questions, emotional language, humour, onomatopoeia etc).  

Audience: A group of people a text is intended for (peers, teachers, parents etc). 

ACTIVITIES YOU CAN DO AT HOME TO SUPPORT YOUR CHILD'S LEARNING

Encourage your child to brainstorm a persuasive topic (or use the ones from last week). 

Have them experiment writing some different sizzling starts for their topic, using some persuasive techniques, keeping in mind their target audience.
