Inquiry Term 1

What is Inquiry-Based Learning?

Inquiry-based learning is an educational approach that places an emphasis on student-driven exploration and investigation. Instead of simply receiving information, students actively participate in the learning process by asking questions, conducting research, and drawing conclusions. This approach aims to foster critical thinking skills, curiosity, and a deep understanding of the subject matter.

Term 1 Inquiry Focus:

Our whole-school Inquiry topic for Term 1 is ‘Intercultural Capability’.

With the Inquiry teaching of Intercultural Capability in full swing, class teachers are aiming to  foster cultural awareness, promote global citizenship, enhance communication skills, and prepare students for a diverse and interconnected world. It lays the foundation for a more inclusive, tolerant, and harmonious society.

All classrooms have a different focus in their Inquiry Units this term. See the figure below that identifies what each year level is focusing on this term in inquiry.

Some of the learning our students have been doing so far in Inquiry have been:

Foundation-2:

Identifying what our families do to celebrate together, investigating lunch boxes from around the world and creating a family tree.

Grade 3/4:

Identifying the similarities and differences between my own individual culture and others. Determining our big questions for Inquiry and investigating them.

Grade 5/6:

Defining: what is culture?, identifying what Australian Culture is and sharing any cultural experiences we have seen or been exposed to.
