Message From Our Principal

Mrs Jackie Stockdale

The school swimming carnival was an electrifying display of talent, enthusiasm, and camaraderie that left everyone in awe. From the moment the event began, the poolside atmosphere was charged with excitement as students, teachers, and families gathered to cheer on their peers. As the carnival unfolded, it became evident that it was not just about winning, but about celebrating the spirit of participation and the joy of being part of a vibrant school community. From thrilling finishes to heartwarming displays of encouragement, the school swimming carnival was truly a testament to the power of sport to unite, inspire, and uplift all who were fortunate enough to be a part of it.

Our next planned whole school gathering is our St Patrick’s Day Mass, celebrated on Thursday the 14th of March and 11am with Father Uday.  We will follow mass with a sausage sizzle lunch.

On Monday the 18th of March we will be celebrating St Patrick with multi-age activities and a yummy green morning tea. The students are encouraged to dress in green clothes to celebrate the day and they will be involved in a parade in the morning. This parade will take place outside at 9am and all parents are welcome to attend.

The March long weekend is already here, wow- time really does fly. I'm sure it is on everyone's radar, but just a friendly reminder that next Monday the 11th of March is a public holiday.

We have begun our 1st fundraiser for 2024- our annual Easter Raffle.

To make this raffle a huge success we need all families to make a contribution to the raffle: this can be easter eggs, chocolate or anything Easter related. These contributions need to be handed into the office. It is these contributions that are used to create the hampers for the prizes in the raffle.

Also, don't forget to sell and return your raffle tickets to the school office! Tickets were sent home with students last Monday.

The money raised from this fundraiser will go towards the Gaga Pit that is on our students 'wish list'.

The food brought into school to celebrate birthdays must be purchased from a shop, packaged, and clearly labeled. This regulation serves several purposes. Firstly, it ensures food safety by guaranteeing that the items have been prepared in a controlled environment and adhere to hygiene standards. Secondly, clear labelling helps to identify ingredients, enabling those with food allergies or dietary restrictions to make informed choices and avoid potential allergens. Additionally, packaged items reduce the risk of contamination and maintain freshness until they are consumed. By implementing these guidelines, the school aims to prioritise the health and well-being of students while still allowing for enjoyable birthday celebrations within a safe and controlled environment.

As we strive to ensure the safety and efficiency of our school dismissal procedures, we kindly remind you to inform grandparents or friends who may be picking up your child at the end of the day about the designated car pick-up procedure at the front of the school.

Recently, we've observed some disruptions to the smooth flow of traffic during pick-up times. It's essential to emphasise that staying in the car while in the pick-up line helps maintain the efficiency of the system. Additionally, we ask that they refrain from pushing into the front of the line and instead wait patiently through the designated drive-through route via the church.

We greatly appreciate your cooperation in adhering to these guidelines, as they are crucial for the safety and convenience of all students and families.

NAPLAN tests will be held during March. All Victorian students will sit NAPLAN tests online using locked-down browsers between Wednesday, 13 March and Wednesday, 20 March (with the exception of students in Year 3 as they will complete their Writing test on paper).

NAPLAN assesses literacy and numeracy skills that students are learning through their regular school curriculum. Students in Years 3 and 5 will sit assessments in:

• Writing

• Reading

• Conventions of Language (spelling, grammar and punctuation)

• Numeracy.

Online NAPLAN tests provide more accurate results and are more engaging for students. One of the main benefits of the online format is adaptive testing, where the test presents questions that may be, more or less difficult depending on a student's responses. This adaptive testing allows a wider range of student abilities to be more accurately measured and presents questions more relevant to the child’s particular level of achievement.

NAPLAN cannot be studied for and students are not expected to do so. The best way you can help your child prepare for NAPLAN is to let them know that it is just another routine part of their school program and encourage them, as always, to do the best they can on the day.

This is a great way to fundraise for our school whilst also caring for our environment.

Money raised will go towards the purchase of a Gaga Pit.

Kyabram District Health Service is excited to see Quit, in partnership with VicHealth, release, ‘Seeing Through the Haze,’ a resource designed for schools to educate students about the harms of vaping and to equip them with the knowledge and skills to create change for healthier, vape-free communities.

The resource is a critical addition to the school curriculum as vaping rates continue to increase amongst young people.
