Level 3

Level  3

We are over the halfway mark for Term 1, with a few more busy weeks to come!

3MW have been honing their skills to locate important information in texts to answer comprehension questions during reading sessions. We have explored the NAPLAN platform on our laptops and familiarised ourselves with the assessment process. Students completed the example Reading test to hopefully feel more comfortable with the format. We have perused past NAPLAN reading magazines, looking at a range of different genres and training our brains to read each question carefully! By reading the question first, students have been able to select key words and search for them in the text, highlighting the passage that holds clues for the answer. Boy was highlighting a real highlight 😊

This week in writing we have explored the different language used and important key words that help identify if a writing prompt (stimulus) is asking us to respond with a narrative or persuasive piece.

Students have focused on the features and structure for each style of writing. We enjoyed some healthy discussions when sharing ‘for’ and ‘against’ arguments about whether school should start an hour later. During a round of the “Four Corners”, students had to choose the best argument for if dogs are better than cats.

Our focus for Numeracy is place value, addition, and subtraction. Students have refreshed their knowledge of a range of addition strategies that work for them. When solving different addition problems, the focus has been on using the most efficient addition strategy. Sonic the Hedgehog’s friend Tails used the MAB to work out his answer and then a number line to check that he was correct.

During Inquiry sessions, students have explored a range of celebrations - those celebrated by families, the HEPS community, their local community, and Australia wide. Here are a few of our work samples!

And finally, 3MW have been busy using their hands and their brains to spell our long spelling words. Who says we can’t learn our spelling and clean the class tables at the same time 😊
