Here is an update on student’s learning across the school this week:

PREP

Me, My Family (oil pastels and dyes)

Students are using mirrors to observe facial features to create self-portraits. The Preps have also designed and painted their art folios.

YEAR ONE/ TWO

My Place (acrylic paints)

Through explicit instruction and guided practice, students have been exploring acrylic painting skills and techniques. We are focussing on the following techniques before we begin our ‘Australian landscape’ paintings.

  • Freestyle lines (straight, zig-zag, curls, swirls, bumps)
  • Commas
  • Stars
  • Dry brushing
  • Dots
  • Flat and round brushes/sponges
  • Cleaning and drying your brush

YEAR THREE/ FOUR

Treasures from the past (still life observational drawing)

Students have explored sequential steps to still-life drawing. We have practiced continuous line drawing, x-ray vision drawing, multiple line drawing, and shading techniques. The Year Three Fours are excited to begin their ‘Treasures from the Past’ artwork next week.

YEAR FIVE / SIX

Australia Post and the past

Students have loved exploring the function, history, and features of stamps. We have identified themes in groups of stamps, and looked at stamp collecting as a hobby. This week, students were given a stamp to send a postcard to Mrs Moore. The Year Five and Sixes loved this activity as for many it was the first time they had used a stamp.

We will post these postcards to Mrs Moore five at a time so they will arrive a few at a time.

As always, a picture tells a thousand words so enjoy the photos of these smiling creative artists…
