ENGLISH

Thank you to students for a terrific start to the school year in your English subjects. We have already had a range of activities beyond the standard curriculum. In particular, the Year 12s undertook an English intensive workshop that went through specific tips and tricks for success and a workshop on the upcoming Creating Texts unit on the framework of ‘Protest’.

A big thank you to Dr Natalie Day, head of Year 12 English, and the Year 12 English teachers for organising and facilitating this event.

The 12s also enjoyed an excursion to ACMI to enjoy a screening of the film they are studying, Billy Wilder’s Sunset Boulevard. It was wonderful to see so many students taking furious notes during the lecture that followed the screening and asking such thoughtful questions.

Many of the English classes are learning about creative writing at the moment and what a perfect opportunity for me to remind you all about the Writer of the Month competition that we run. If you are a keen writer, you can enter a piece of writing to your English or Literature teacher to help you to edit the piece.

For more information, please ensure that you review the conditions of entry on the WOTM Google site prior to submission.

A big thank you to Dr David Dick and Ashley Matthews who oversee this competition.

As we settle into the year, students are encouraged to take advantage of the many opportunities provided to explore their passion for reading and writing. Along with the Writer of the Month competition, students should also keep an eye on Compass for details about Book Club and inter-school debating.
