CAPTAIN'S CORNER
SENIOR CAPTAIN
As the third week of Term 1 comes to an end, there have already been a wide range of exciting activities and events happening here at McKinnon. We welcomed our new Year 7s for 2024, but also welcomed back the Year 10s to the McKinnon Rd Campus after their time at East Campus.
It was really nice to see some old, familiar faces and welcome some new, younger faces. It’s quite surreal to think that us Year 12s were once new to the school, but now we are nearing the end of our journey. In our first week, the Year 12 students engaged in the Tomorrow Man/Woman workshops which are designed to empower students to challenge societal stereotypes and use their voices. I know that I don’t just speak for myself when I say these workshops had quite a profound impact on our year group. You could really feel the support and love amongst the cohort in the days following.
To further solidify these connections and spend one last camp together, the following week, the Year 12s spent two days at the Phillip Island Adventure Resort. It was a great opportunity to talk and collaborate with new people while completing fun, team-building activities.
In classic McKinnon camp fashion, we finished up the night with some Trivia, which always gets the friendly competition going. It’s been a great few weeks of school so far, and I can’t wait to see what’s to come.

EAST CAMPUS CAPTAIN
The past three weeks have been hectic. We’ve seen blistering hot days, and violent storms, with a new campus for the Year 8s, and an old campus for the Year 10s, McKinnon really has seen everything.
With school starting, the Year 9s have started with a whole new environment. The long-awaited electives have now begun, students have had the opportunity to delve into an area for which they have passion. Assisting this search of new beginnings, the Morrisby program has begun, having students completing testing to gauge their future careers.
As we roll along, clubs have now started up again with Retro Club, Interact Club, Chess Club and many others being held at East Campus. Be sure to check them out on Compass and join as many clubs as you like.
We all wait in great anticipation of the coming weeks, notably with school photos and the Swimming Carnival. Photos will already be taken as of writing this, good luck to all and may you have a good picture! The Swimming Carnival is an event with classic rivals, underdogs and favourites. This event will be held on Wednesday 28 February. I know many will be eager for a day off, so make sure to register and represent your house. And of course, good luck to everyone except the people who are not in Chisholm!
With so much to look forward to in the coming weeks, and right now, it really is an exciting time to be a part of this great community. Though the weeks have been hectic, we are starting to settle in for a great year here at McKinnon Secondary College!
