SWIMMING SPORTS

The McKinnon Swimming Carnival will take place at GESAC on Wednesday 28 February.

Students in Years 8 - 12 need to sign up to the event to participate and excitingly, all Year 7 students will attend the event.

All students involved on the day need to make their own way to GESAC for a 9:15am arrival. Students will be dismissed from the venue at 2:45 - 3pm. (In the event of really bad weather, students may be dismissed early).

Students will have the opportunity to gain points for their new House in events such as freestyle, backstroke, butterfly and breaststroke swimming and novelty swimming events; all conducted at GESAC pool. There will also be an ultimate frisbee tournament occurring at nearby Bailey Reserve. The House with the most points at the end of the day will win the swimming cup.

Students will need to be prepared for a full day in the weather. Hats/sunscreen/appropriate clothing to avoid the sun and bathers if they intend to swim. Keep in mind that there will be novelty events happening in the shallow end of the pool for students that are not as confident at swimming to participate in.

A BBQ will be in operation for students to buy sausages and drinks and the students will have access to the GESAC canteen.

The theme for the day is House Colours. Students will have free dress and we encourage the students to dress in the following colours of each House:

Flynn = YellowMonash = Green
Gilmore = RedChisholm = Blue

INTERMEDIATE BOYS CRICKET

The Intermediate Boys cricket team had a successful day at the Kingston Division Round Robin on Monday 19 February.

Feilding no less than eight Year 9 students (who won state titles at Year 7, and Runners-up in Year 8), we breezed through our pool games.

In the final against Beaumaris we started shakily with the bat, losing two early wickets. However, Alex Bridges (Year 9) and Harvey Weigall (Year 9) stood tall, combining for a mammoth 80 run partnership allowing us to post 93 off our 8 overs.

Our bowlers then did their job and took early wickets and restricted Beaumaris to 53 to seal a comfortable 40 run win.

INTERMEDIATE GIRLS CRICKET

A tremendous effort by all the Year 9 and Year 10 Girls who participated in the Kingston Division Round Robin.

Our first game was a nail-biter against Mordialloc with runs almost even, however, McKinnon managed to take a win due to a dot ball. Our captain Subira Seymour (Year 10) kept the vibes high with her enthusiasm and great talk on and off the field.

Ishi Tiwari (Year 9) and Riva Guliya (Year 9) managed to run 85 not out in the final against Sandringham in a fantastic effort. McKinnon winning by 35 runs made it through the SMR finals in October.

A brilliant team effort by all the students who participated and we look forward to the finals later in the year.

SENIOR GIRLS CRICKET

The Senior Girls Cricketers played three competitive games against Bentleigh, Beaumaris and Brighton last week.

After steam rolling Brighton in the first round, they played Beaumaris in the second round. Beaumaris were struggling after four overs with some great bowling by Domi Campbell (Year 11), however they beat McKinnon's total at the end of the 6th over with some fine batting from a future Australian cricketer!

This narrow loss spurred the girls to beat Bentleigh in the final game, with Kaia Haykowski (Year 11) claiming her maiden cricket wicket, and Gloris George (Year 11) and Rowen Hull (Year 12) putting on a brilliant match winning partnership!

Congratulations on winning two competitive matches and condolences for not making it to the next round!
