Implementation of the New NSW  Years 3-6 English and Mathematics Syllabus 2024

This year the new NSW English and Mathematics Syllabuses have been implemented in Years 3-6.

The new syllabuses emphasise key concepts, identify essential knowledge and skills, and include new outcomes to clearly show what is essential for students to learn as global citizens in a changing world. This year all teachers will be participating in professional learning to develop further knowledge of the content and resources to design engaging  teaching and learning programs.

Please access the link below for information related to the K- Year 6 Curriculum.

NAPLAN Online 2024

Students in Years 3 and 5 will participate in the Naplan online tests commencing on Wednesday 13th March. The online testing period will conclude on Friday 25th March. The NAPLAN tests are designed to provide a summative, nationally comparable understanding of student performance in writing, reading, conventions of language and numeracy.

NAPLAN online provides better assessment, more precise results and a faster turnaround of information. NAPLAN online is a tailored test that adapts to student responses, presenting students with questions that may be more or less difficult depending on their ability – resulting in better assessment and more precise results. Students will have  the opportunity to participate in a series of online practice tests prior to the testing date. The NAPLAN timetable will be shared with parents prior to the testing period.

  • All students will require a set of working headphones for test participation.

Parents of students in Years 3 and 5 please access the link below outlining the NAPLAN 2024 Timetable.

The student reports for parents will be distributed once they have been received by the school.

If you have any further questions please contact your child’s class teacher.

Carline Safety

With many students transporting musical instruments to and from school on a Thursday, it is important that parents assist students to open the car boot and remove the instrument on this day. With cars parking closely behind each other on carlines and the automatic popping open of boots, student safety is becoming a major concern.

Parents please also have your child’s school bag in the vehicle to avoid them accessing the car boot.

OLF Open Days

If you have a Kinder student starting school next year or have a friend or neighbour with a child wanting to come to OLF in 2025, please let them know about our Open Days, where they can come along and get to know more about our school, what it has to offer, talk to staff and have a look around.

SPBL Awards

Parents, please see the chart below with a change to our SPBL Award system for the students. See our SPBL Awards page in this newsletter for more information.

The World’s Greatest Shave

There are 140,00 families facing blood cancer right now. And it takes the lives of 16 Australians every day.

Everyone can help by supporting the Leukaemia Foundation which in turn assists Australians facing blood cancer by providing medical and emotional support.

Please read Chloe’s story:

My name is Chloe and I am a student at Our Lady of Fatima Primary School. Almost 2 years ago my mum had blood cancer.  At the time my sister was 6 years old and I was 7 turning 8.

She was mostly in the hospital for 7 months other than short periods when she would come home. We rarely got to see her and that made us both very sad. Our dad did his best, but it was not the same without our mum at home.

Before this our mum always had very long beautiful hair, she always had it in a ponytail. One time she came home from the hospital, she had no hair at all. My sister and I cried for a very long time and found it really hard to not see her look like our mum.

My mum is ok now. Thanks to God she has been in remission for over a year. However, the doctors are still cautious and regularly check that my mum is ok. My mum has to have her blood tested at the hospital every month.

Associate Professor Larsen is my mum's doctor and he works very hard at the hospital to treat my mum and other people who need his help. One of his assistants who also works very hard is George Bush.

George has been growing his hair for 5 years and is willing to shave his whole head to help raise money for my mum and so many others.

Please, if you can, donate to such a good cause - even if it's very small, it all adds up to help!
