Principal Report

Dear Families,
Students have made a fantastic start to the 2026 school year and have settled remarkably well back into the school routine. Our Prep students have been brilliant in adapting to school life so far, and it has been wonderful to see their confidence grow each day.
Each grade has completed our Setting Up for Success program to begin the year. This program focuses on establishing class rules, school values, expectations, routines, and building positive relationships as they get to know one another for the year ahead. It has provided a strong foundation for learning and wellbeing across the school.
A highlight of the term has been our Oatlands Swimming House Trials, with students in Grades 4–6 competing for their house and for selection in the Oatlands District Swim Team. All students participated with great effort and outstanding sportsmanship. Thank you to all staff who assisted on the day, in particular Sarah James and Tim Werner, who organised a very successful event.
Another highlight has been our Grade 6 Student Leaders participating in the YLead program, where they had the opportunity to learn and grow their leadership knowledge and skills. This experience has supported them to step confidently into their leadership roles for the year.
Our Grade 6 students are currently on camp at Wilson’s Promontory National Park, camping in tents and enjoying a wide range of activities including swimming, beach sports, an Amazing Race, surfing, bush walking, a talent show and movie night. Thank you to all staff attending for spending time away from their families to provide this wonderful opportunity for our students, and a special thank you to Anita Weidenbohm for leading the organisation of the camp.
Next week we have our Getting to Know Your Child meetings scheduled. These meetings are a valuable opportunity for parents and teachers to officially meet, share important information and set goals for the year ahead.
Coming up soon, our Grade 3 and 5 students will be participating in NAPLAN testing. We encourage families to support students with plenty of rest, reassurance and a positive mindset as they approach this important assessment period.
We are off to a wonderful start and there is much to look forward to this year. Thank you for your ongoing support as we continue to work together to make 2026 a successful and rewarding year for all students.
Kind regards,
Matthew Kenny
