Around the Primary Classrooms

Primary Prayer
This week our Primary classes gathered together for their first Primary Prayer. They welcomed new students, new teachers and new opportunities to learn and grow together. They thank God for bringing them safely into this new year and for walking with each and every one of them each day.
Kinder
It has been a wonderful and busy first two weeks in Kinder as students learn our classroom routines and settle into school life. We have enjoyed exploring and playing in the outside playground at the Louisa Centre. We love playing in the Kitchen Corner and with baby dolls. We have been working hard on learning to write our names and developing our fine motor skills through a range of activities.
Prep
What a wonderful start to Prep we have had. We have enjoyed meeting new friends, playing in our classroom and settling into new routines. A highlight has definitely been participating in the Primary Swimming Carnival. Two of our favourite events were rob the nest and the egg and spoon race!
Year 1
Year 1 have had their heads down and pencils moving as we fully embrace our new maths approach, the Explicit Mathematics Program (EMP). Through clear modelling, guided practice, and daily review, students are building confidence, strengthening number fact knowledge, and developing strong mathematical foundations. We are so proud of their focus, effort, and enthusiasm for learning!
Year 2
On the first day of school, Year 2 had an online exchange with Year 1 students at Yaizu Hagashi Primary School. Yaizu, Japan is Hobart's sister city and for the last 5 weeks the Whitney family (Gracie in Year 2 and Violet in Prep) have been living there. During their stay, Gracie has been attending school daily doing all the lessons in Japanese. Due to the season, she has been wearing her Mount Carmel winter uniform. During this exchange, the Year 2 students introduced themselves in Japanese and shared two songs with the students in Yaizu. Another exchange is planned once Gracie has returned to Mount Carmel.
Year 4
It's been a great start to the year in Year 4 where we have welcomed 2 new students to our group. We have been quick to establish our expectations for the class and have taken an early lead as " the best Year 4 class " one which I think we can hold onto for the remainder of the year.
Routines, class jobs, and Mr Lowe's dad jokes have been well received, and we have hit the ground running.
Looking forward to a busy first term with lots of learning and laughter to be had.
Oh, and we are learning to use Laptops for the first time.
Year 5 Navy
5 Navy, may they continue as they have begun - with smiles, friendly greetings, enthusiasm and an eagerness to learn! Many new students have been welcomed and are already enriching our classroom. Routines are being established and responsibilities undertaken. We are all excited for our year of learning together.
Year 5 White
It’s been a wonderful start to the year for Year 5 White, as students have settled into their new routines and learning. A major highlight has been our collaborative work on our Class Charter, where students discussed expectations to ensure a supportive and comfortable environment for everyone. This spirit of community was on full display at the swimming carnival, where it was wonderful to see students cheering on their peers. Academically, we’ve already dived into our first English novel study and reviewed mathematical algorithms. We have also turned our focus toward reflection and faith, exploring the significance of Ash Wednesday and the traditions of Lent as we begin this important liturgical season. It’s shaping up to be a wonderful year of growth and learning!
