Wet Day Program

Occasionally at school we have to remain inside at playtime due to weather outside, whether it be heat (over 32 degrees), wet weather or localised stormy weather. During these times students from neighbouring classrooms will spend their playtime/lunchtime with each other. We encourage the use of play in the junior grades during these times with plenty of hands on activities.

This week the Year 1 students invited us into their learning space and helped our Foundation students with playing in their classroom. A massive SHOUT OUT to the Year 1 students for helping the little ones, showing kindness and making them feel welcome in a new space. You were fantastic!!

Discovery Learning

Discovery Learning play is a child-centered, active, and hands-on approach where children explore, experiment, and learn at their own pace using natural materials, inquiry, and curiosity. It focuses on "learning by doing," fostering cognitive development, problem-solving, and independence through play-based activities such as sensory experiences, treasure baskets, and imaginative play. Most afternoons the Foundation students are engaged in this type of play. It's great to sit with them and chat about all sorts of things that arise. Palwasha, Maddie and I are definitely getting to know them better!

Year 1

Week 5 – Already Halfway! 🎉

Wow – it’s hard to believe we are already halfway through the term! Time really does fly when we’re busy learning and having fun.

Home Learning has now begun, so please keep an eye out for the green bags in your child’s school bag. These will be sent home and refreshed every Thursday. We’re excited to see the wonderful learning that happens at home!

On Wednesday evening, we celebrated our beautiful Welcome Mass at church. It was such a special ceremony. Our student leaders were announced, and our SCT members proudly presented our class candle to Father for a blessing. It was a very meaningful moment for our class community.

We are also incredibly proud to share that Valentina and Jacob were voted in as our Year 1 SRT members! With so many fantastic role models to choose from, it was a difficult decision. We know they will represent our class with kindness, responsibility, and enthusiasm. Congratulations to you both,  we are so proud of you!

Wishing all our families a wonderful and restful weekend. 🌟

Year 3/4 AL

Hello families,

We can’t believe we are already halfway through Term 1!

Visit to Mercy College

On Tuesday, our year 4 girls visited Mercy College for their Discovery Day. They met with staff and students, toured the campus and participated in a variety of subjects. They were also treated to morning tea and lunch.  The wild weather that hit as we were leaving added to the excitement of the day. The girls did a wonderful job representing Sacred Heart and participated eagerly. Well done!

Inquiry Learning

Students have shown great curiosity when learning about their body systems through our Inquiry unit. This week we explored the digestive system and took a close look at how our stomach and intestines work. There were questions, discussions and lots of researching. We look forward to working through more of our amazing body systems over the next few weeks.

We used water (saliva) and vinegar (acid) to explore how food is broken down through digestion. Students discovered that food becomes 'chyme' once the stomach has done its job.

We discovered that the small intestine is approximately 9 meters long.

Students decided to stretch out and see if they could estimate 9 meters with their bodies. This helped us to visualise just how long our intestines are. Amazing!

Weekly homework

Home learning has commenced. Students have a homework book with tasks for the term and a plastic sleeve with Maths fluency sheets that can be practised multiple times. Please support your child, sign off on their reading and return homework books and diaries to school everyFriday.  If you have any questions, don't hesitate to get in touch.

Thank you for your support.

Kind regards,

Abby and Lauren

Year 3/4 T

Hello Sacred Heart community,

Hard to believe Week 5 is already done and dusted- half way through Term 1 already!

Inquiry Learning

In Inquiry this week, students have been exploring the digestive system as part of our Body Systems unit. They have been investigating a range of informative texts to deepen their understanding of how food travels through the body and how our organs work together.

It has been wonderful to see students using books to research, ask questions and build their knowledge. They have shown great curiosity while examining diagrams, reading explanations and discussing new vocabulary connected to the digestive system. Our classroom conversations have been thoughtful and engaging as students make connections between what they already know and new information they are discovering!

Weekly Homework

Students have received their homework workbooks, which contain a rubric of learning activities to choose from each week. We have also asked that students read every night and record this in their school diaries. Regular reading supports the development of fluency, comprehension and vocabulary, and helps build confidence and stamina as readers.

Please support your child by encouraging them to complete their chosen task for the week, read consistently, and have their reading signed.

Homework books and diaries should be returned to school each Friday.  Thank you for supporting your child with their home learning, please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions.

Enjoy your weekend!

Warmly,

Tess

Year 5/6 J  & Year 5/6 M

On Wednesday, the year 6 students found out who the 2026 School Leaders were. Everyone was excited and happy to finally find out who they were! All the year 6 students got jobs of responsibility and are now all looking forwards to helping make Sacred Heart an even better place! At Mass that evening, the whole school was also introduced to the new leaders. All the year 6s received their beautiful 2026 Rugby top as a gift to wear for their final year. Antoniette was very surprised when she was also presented with a 2026 Rugby top. The new 2026 Foundation students were also presented to everyone. Each student received a beautiful pot of tiny flowers and a letter from their buddy.

It was a wonderful Mass. There was wonderful singing from the Choir and the Church was full of people. The memory will stay with us forever! By Layla and Chloe
