Strengthening AI Literacy Across Our College Community

This term, we are excited to launch a renewed approach to how Artificial Intelligence is used across learning at the College. This response has been shaped by extensive staff professional learning, current research, and the emerging capabilities and workforce trends shaping what students will need beyond school.

Many institutions feel pressure to limit AI because of concerns about cheating, bias, or accuracy. While these concerns are valid, they shouldn’t halt progress. Instead, the research reminds us that our approach should be anchored in protecting and preparing students through safe, transparent and responsible AI use, empowering rather than replacing human thinking, and leading with a clear vision for how AI can meaningfully enhance learning in our community.

Across our professional development sessions, teachers have participated in collaborative workshops focused on ethical AI use, assessment design, and strategies to strengthen academic integrity. This professional learning has directly informed updated school policies and clear, shared guidelines that support safe, responsible and purposeful integration of AI across our learning environments. Our response has been collaborative, multiphase and iterative.

Alongside staff development, students have taken part in workshops during our weekly SEAD academic time, allowing us to introduce changes in a clear and supportive way. These sessions explore how AI has evolved, the practices that support its most effective use, and the importance of maintaining student voice, originality and critical thinking. Early feedback from students has been overwhelmingly positive, with many valuing the clarity around expectations and the opportunity to discuss the ethical and academically responsible use of AI in their learning.

We look forward to continuing this work in partnership with families as we prepare students for a future where AI literacy will be increasingly important. Some of our updated policy documents and student guidelines can be seen below.
