Learning Enhancement Program – The Hive & The Pod
At Baxter PS, we are committed to ensuring every student is supported, challenged and empowered to reach their full potential. Our Learning Enhancement Program provides targeted support and extension opportunities across the school through two dedicated spaces — The Hive and The Pod.
🐝 The Hive (Foundation – Year 2)
The Hive supports students in Foundation to Year 2 who would benefit from targeted support in literacy and/or numeracy. The early years are critical for building strong learning foundations, and timely intervention during this period plays an important role in long-term success.
Students participate in small group sessions designed to provide:
- Targeted learning goals based on individual needs
- Explicit teaching of key literacy and numeracy skills
- Structured practice to build understanding and fluency
- Ongoing, consistent feedback to guide improvement
The small group setting allows for close monitoring of progress and responsive teaching. Most importantly, The Hive provides a nurturing environment where students can build confidence, resilience and develop a positive mindset towards learning.
🌱 The Pod (Year 3 – Year 6)
The Pod supports students in Years 3–6 through both intervention and extension sessions.
For students requiring additional support, The Pod provides targeted intervention to strengthen core literacy and numeracy skills, address gaps in understanding, and reinforce classroom learning. A key component of the intervention program is Corrective Reading, which delivers explicit, structured literacy instruction to support the development of decoding, fluency and comprehension skills.
For students ready for further challenge, extension sessions provide opportunities to deepen understanding, apply higher-order thinking skills, and engage in more complex problem-solving tasks.
Like The Hive, The Pod operates in smaller groups, allowing for explicit instruction and regular feedback. This structured and responsive model ensures teaching is purposeful, progress is closely monitored, and every student receives the appropriate level of support or challenge to maximise their growth.
👩🏫 Our Dedicated Team
The success of our Learning Enhancement Program is driven by the expertise and dedication of our staff. Jade Dahlstrom, Michelle Bremner and Tegan Williams work closely with students in The Hive, delivering targeted, explicit instruction and building strong relationships that support student growth and confidence.
Liz Taylor leads The Pod, guiding both intervention and extension programs for our Year 3–6 students with a focus on purposeful teaching and meaningful progress.
Our Education Support staff play an invaluable role in these spaces, assisting both students and teachers to ensure learning is focused, supportive and responsive to individual needs.
Through The Hive and The Pod, our Learning Enhancement Program reflects our strong commitment to inclusive education — ensuring every learner at Baxter PS is given the right level of support and challenge to thrive.
