WHAT'S BEEN HAPPENING (1 of 2)

YEAR 3-6 PRIMARY SWIMMING CARNIVAL
BY SIMON BROECKER (PRIMARY SPORTS COORDINATOR)
It was an awesome day up at Belgrave Pool for our Year 3 - 6 Swimming Carnival Friday 20th March. The weather was fantastic and all kids took their turns racing in freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and a few in the butterfly. However the day wasn’t just full of racing. We also had fun in our novelty races using a heap of inflatables and even a giant free swim.
Our races also counted as our time trials to represent our school at the CSEN Swimming Championships. The team has been announced and will be heading to MSAC on Friday 20th March. I encourage everyone who made the team to get some practice in between now and then.
I would like to thank all the parents, grandparents, family members who came and supported their kids. Every student who raced scored points for their house. This year our winning house was Sherbrooke!
Sherbrooke - 1430pts
Wattle - 1320pts (last years winners)
Yarra - 1180pts
Marunari - 1075
We would also like to celebrate our Age-Group Champions who will receive a certificate at our next primary assembly.

YEAR 5 HEALESVILLE EXCURSION
BY GRACE READ (YEAR 5 TEACHER)
Last Friday, our Year 5 students enjoyed a wonderful excursion to Healesville Sanctuary. The visit connected beautifully with our HASS and Science learning, as students explored Australian animals and learned about their unique adaptations and the importance of managing and protecting natural resources.
Students participated in an engaging educational session led by Lisa, an Indigenous keeper and educator, and had the opportunity to observe native wildlife up close, including emus, kangaroos and birds of prey.
It was fantastic to see their curiosity and thoughtful questions throughout the day.
YEAR 7 & 8 ANCIENT & MEDIEVAL INCURSION
BY VANESSA EVANS (HEAD OF YEAR 7-12 HUMANITIES & YEAR 7 TEACHER)
History truly came off the page this term as our Year 7 and 8 students took part in our Ancient and Medieval incursions. By engaging in immersive role-play, students didn't just learn about social hierarchies, warfare, sport, crime & punishment—they experienced them first hand. The inclusion of vivid storytelling turned abstract dates into gripping human dramas, while the hands-on exploration of artifact replicas provided a tactile link to civilizations. These experiences prove that when students can feel the weight of a helmet or hear the "true" stories behind the ruins, history ceases to be a list of facts and becomes a vibrant, three-dimensional journey that fosters genuine empathy and curiosity.
Reflections from students:
“In the rulers and subjects session we all started with one token to represent money and half the room were farmers and the other half were hunter gatherers then we had to try to gain as many tokens as we could and it was super fun!” - Luca (Year 7)
“I got to wear the armour of a spartan and it was pushing my neck down to my chin. Overall I think the day was excellent!” - Aaron (Year 7)
“Ancient day was a blast from the past! I loved learning about armour and weapons. It was interesting how ancient cities began and acting out how it happened was a fun way to learn. I enjoyed the activity where you have to put on a blindfold and find a hoop in the gym while your team mates are yelling at you trying to help. Altogether it was a fun day!” - Eleanor (Year 7)
“In my opinion, Medieval Day was one of the most interesting days of the term. I loved how we actually got to do activities themed on Medieval times instead of just learning about them. My personal favourite was the Knight's Training activity, where we were taught how knights used their weapons and actually got to have a duel against one of the instructors! I really enjoyed it and would definitely do it again if I could." - Ayden (Year 8)
