Harmony Week Update
Our Year 6 Captains and leaders have been busy planning and preparing for Harmony Week. They will help to run a number of activities for our students throughout the week starting Monday 23rd March. There will be a cultural dress or wear orange day on March 26 - so please start discussing with your child what they might wear on this day.
Orange has been traditionally associated with Harmony Week as the colour is linked to meaningful communication, aiding the development of new ideas and mutual respect. It gives us the freedom to be ourselves and encourages inclusivity.
Helping Children Make Sense of the News
Children today are growing up in a world where major news stories reach them almost instantly—often without the context they need to understand what they’re seeing or hearing. As these stories circulate quickly through online platforms, many young people are left to interpret complex events on their own.
A key starting point is building the skills that allow them to approach age appropriate news thoughtfully, rather than feel overwhelmed by it. Strengthening children’s news literacy means equipping them with tools to ask good questions, identify trustworthy sources, understand how stories are shaped, and recognise how media coverage can influence their feelings.
These skills empower children to interpret online information more confidently and to talk about what they’re seeing in healthy, informed ways.
