Auslan

Foundation Auslan

This week in Auslan, students were introduced to numbers 1–10. We focused on using our dominant hand, the correct handshape, and clear movement when signing each number. Students practised by flipping cards and signing the number shown, completing a number activity sheet for their workbooks. We revised previously learnt signs and incorporated both learned and incidental signs in amongst our learning e.g. excellent, love it, how are you?/I’m good, please & thank you, good/bad.

Level 1 Auslan

Over the past fortnight in Auslan, students have been revising fingerspelling the alphabet (A–Z) and practising spelling their own names and those of their friends using the Auslan Alphabet Chart for support. We played “Guess Who’s Name I’m Signing?”, which encouraged students to work together, build confidence, and have fun recognising names through Auslan.

Students also practised fingerspelling short animal words such as catdogbatcowfoxrathenbee, and ant. Using PowerPoint slides and whiteboards, they took turns signing and guessing each word, helping one another along the way. Throughout both lessons, we reinforced that facial expression and body language are key parts of clear and expressive signing in Auslan. We also played ‘Snowman’ game, guessing mystery words using Auslan fingerspelling—a great way to combine both signing and spelling practice in a fun, interactive way. Students enjoyed revising previously learnt signs and incorporated both learned and incidental signs in amongst our learning e.g. best, better, excellent, love, love it, how are you?/I’m good, please & thank you, good/bad, ready? start

Level 2 Auslan

Over the past fortnight in Auslan, students have been building their alphabet fluency and expanding their vocabulary with action words. A fun game of Simon Says was played to introduce to introduce the concept of action verbs, then learnt and practised new signs including coughswallowreadsneezestandjumphopmakecarrydrinkfallfall backpullpainttalkplay, and dream. Students worked in pairs to support each other’s learning and finished with a ‘Snowman’ game, guessing mystery words using Auslan fingerspelling—a great way to combine both signing and spelling practice in a fun, interactive way. Students enjoyed revising previously learnt signs and incorporated both learned and incidental signs in amongst our learning e.g. best, better, excellent, love, love it, how are you?/I’m good, please & thank you, good/bad, ready? start.

Library – Foundation & Level 1

Both Foundation and Level 1 students have been practising our library routines with great enthusiasm! We have been learning how to choose, care for, and return books, as well as how to use our library voices and show respect for shared spaces. A big thank you to our parent helpers, I’m truly grateful for your help. Students are enjoying sharing stories, browsing the shelves, and growing their love of books each week.

Performing Arts – Foundation

Foundation students have enjoyed singing songs and exploring the beat and rhythm through fun, movement-based activities. They practised moving to the beat, experimented with clapping, stomping, and different actions, and created their own rhythms using clapping and percussion instruments. Students were also introduced to key music terms such as largo (slow), presto (fast), piano (quiet), and forte (loud).

Performing Arts – Level 1

Level 1 students have been developing their sense of beat, rhythm, and tempo through songs, movement, and games. They explored body percussion while performing Five Fat Frogs, and experimented with ways to keep the beat and create rhythmic patterns. Like Foundation, Level 1 have been learning to use musical language such as largoprestopiano, and forte to describe how music feels and sounds.

School Swimming Carnival

On Friday 13th, the students in Year 3-6 participated in the House Cup Swimming Carnival. House colours were brightly and proudly worn and cheering was loud throughout the 47 races we held.

Everyone who competed did an amazing job and contributed to their house points tally. The cup will be awarded on Friday 27th Feb at assembly.

Congratulations to the 32 students who have now progressed to District Swimming this Friday 20th at WaterMarc Greensborough. We know you will do ENPS proud!

A big thank you also goes to all our wonderful teachers and parents who helped on the day, we couldn’t do it without you.
