Year 5/6 - Newsletter

Year 5/6 Newsletter – Start of 2026

Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome to the start of another exciting year in Year 5/6! It has been wonderful seeing students settle back into school routines so positively and approach their learning with enthusiasm.

Swimming Carnival

Our students represented the school beautifully at the swimming carnival. We were very lucky to have such great weather on the day, and it was fantastic to see everyone participating, encouraging one another, and putting in their best effort. We are very proud of the way students demonstrated teamwork and school spirit throughout the event.

PST Conferences

Thank you to all parents and carers who attended the PST conferences. We greatly appreciate the time you took to share important information about your child with their new teacher. These conversations help us support each student’s learning and wellbeing from the very beginning of the year.

Literacy

This term, we have begun reading our class novel The Silver Donkey. As we work through the book, students are completing a range of literacy activities using the novel as a guiding text. These tasks focus on writing styles, vocabulary, and deeper thinking about characters and themes.

Students have also been revisiting persuasive writing. We have been refamiliarising ourselves with the structure and key features of a persuasive text, helping students strengthen their ability to clearly express and support their opinions.

Mathematics

In Maths, we have started the year focusing on place value, extending this learning to include decimals and fractions. Developing a strong understanding in this area provides an important foundation as we move into other mathematical concepts later in the year.

School Photo Day – Wednesday 4th MarchIf possible, we ask that Year 6 students wear their Year 6 polo shirt on photo day. For Year 5 students, wearing the green school polo is encouraged if available.

Year 6 Camp – 10th–13th MarchYear 6 camp is fast approaching! Thank you to everyone who has already returned medical forms. If you have not yet sent your child’s medical form back, please do so as soon as possible so we can provide the camp with accurate allergy and dietary information.

Graduation

The graduation date has been confirmed for Monday the 14th of December.

Noodles

Unfortunately due to OHS issues, as of week 5 we are no longer able to offer boiling water for noodles. Please do not send your child with food that requires boiling water.

Thank you for your continued support. We are looking forward to a fantastic term ahead and all the learning and experiences it will bring.

Kind regards,The Year 5/6 Team
