Principal's Report
Dear Rockhampton North Special School Community,
As we head into the last part of Term 4, I want to share some of the wonderful feedback we’ve received recently and celebrate what makes our school such a special place.
Celebrating Our Community
Our recent School Opinion Survey results were incredibly positive and reflect the great culture we have here at RNSS. All of our students shared that they feel supported and encouraged by their teachers, with 100% saying they’re treated fairly, motivated to do their best, and truly cared for. This tells us that our values of care, courage, and cooperation are making a real difference for our students each day. Our parent community echoed this positivity too. Nearly every parent agreed that their child enjoys being at school, with 94% feeling that RNSS has a strong sense of community and is a place where achievements are celebrated. Hearing that parents see RNSS as a “good school” and a welcoming space for their children is such rewarding feedback for our team.
A Supportive and Inclusive Environment
We’re especially proud to see 94.1% of parents agree that our school has a positive culture. This strong foundation of support and inclusiveness not only helps our students feel safe and valued but also brings families, teachers, and staff together as one community. Together, we’re building a place where everyone—students, families, and staff—feels a sense of belonging. Thank you to each of you for being a part of this journey. Your trust, support, and involvement are what make RNSS such a wonderful place for all. Let’s keep working together to make our school community even stronger!
Leading the Way in SustainabilityA big well done to Sam, who has been doing a fantastic job leading our sustainable Kitchen Garden program and a new recycling partnership with Rockhampton Grammar School. Sam’s work in this area is inspiring students to think about sustainability and take action for a healthier planet. Through the Kitchen Garden program, students and staff work together to grow a variety of herbs and vegetables, which they then use in producing meals and our school café. This hands-on approach gives students a sense of responsibility and pride in growing their own food while learning about the importance of reducing waste and caring for the environment. The recycling initiative with Rockhampton Grammar is another step in fostering awareness around sustainability, encouraging our students to recycle and think about how small actions can make a big impact.
Thank you to everyone for supporting this journey. Together, we’re creating a strong school community that’s focused not just on learning, but also on caring for the world around us. Your involvement and trust are what make RNSS such a wonderful place for all.
Kind regards,
Dehlia Dawson
