As our Grade 6s prepare to finish their journey at Albanvale Primary School they have been undertaking their term of transition. The Grade 5/6s have become straight levels with just Grade 5 and just Grade 6 students in two classes each. The Grade 6s have started electives like photography, exercise science, chemical science, humanities and music. Check out some of the adventures our students have been having.

Surf Lifesaving

During the life-saving course, students learned important skills that could help save someone's life in an emergency. One of the key things they learned was how to recognise the signs of danger in the water, such as when someone is struggling to stay afloat or showing signs of exhaustion. They also practised what to do if caught in a rip, including staying calm, swimming parallel to the shore, and signalling for help. Additionally, students learned various rescue techniques, such as using a rescue tube or throwing a flotation device to a swimmer in trouble. The course was both fun and informative, making students feel more confident in the water, knowing how to keep themselves and others safe.

Lawn Bowls and Teamwork

Participating in lawn bowls was an exciting and new experience for students. Before the course, many didn’t know much about lawn bowls, but now they understand the rules and how the game works. The aim is to get the bowls closest to the "jack" (the small white ball) on the green, and students learned how to measure distances to determine the winner of each round. What stood out the most was the teamwork aspect of the game. Students had to communicate and strategise as a team to score the most points possible. It was rewarding to see how everyone contributed to the team’s success, teaching them how important it is to work together and support each other, whether in sports or other areas of life.

Student 1 - Moving to High School

As the end of their time at Albanvale approaches, one student is feeling a mix of excitement and nervousness. They are looking forward to meeting new people and trying out new subjects at high school. However, they also feel a little bit sad because they’ve grown so attached to the friends and teachers at Albanvale. The thought of leaving behind the familiar is daunting, but they know they will make new friends and find their place in high school. They are ready to take on new challenges and make the most of the opportunities that lie ahead.

Student 2 - Moving to High School

Moving to high school is a big change, and one student is feeling both excited and anxious. They are eager to learn new things and experience more independence, but they are also a bit nervous about how different it will be from primary school. They’ve heard that high school can be tough at times, but they are looking forward to the new experiences, such as choosing different subjects and joining clubs. While it’s sad to say goodbye to Albanvale, they know this is the beginning of a new chapter in their life and are ready to face whatever comes next.
