Connect: Year 3

 Welcome to the second last Connect! It truly feels surreal to be updating you all on the final end of year dates. Please make sure you check the dates on the 'What's On' page and down below for information as we finish up 2024!

What's happening in the classrooms?

Literacy: 

This past fornight we have started working on Dreaming stories. This week we have looked at Tiddalick and learning about morals of a story. We have made connections with other stories, talked about their significance in Australian Indigenous culture and have completed some comprehension activities. See the link below for another version of Tiddalick we have compared other texts to. 

Numeracy: 

 We finally finished our unit of Time last week with great success. We have been really impressed with the students perseverance as they extend their understandings. This week we started to look at the concept of 'Angles'. The students have learned the terms rays, vertex, horizontal and vertical. They have learned what makes a 'right' angle and looked for them in our local environment. 

Inquiry:  

We have finally finished immersing our students in the First Fleet and perspectives of First Australians. This week and for the rest of the term, our students will look up questions they have formed throughout watching videos, reading and comparing information. Some examples of the questions are below. We love how inquisitive the students are!

• How many children were convicts in the First Fleet? What were their names?
• What tools and artefacts did Indigenous Australians use?
• How did they fit the 775 convicts on the ships in the First Fleet?
• Why were the laws in England so strict during the time?

Wellbeing: 

We are starting to wrap up our year and as many of you at home will notice, we are all feeling it and almost ready for a rest! We have been running our wellbeing sessions, but also taking the time to run circles when we come across small social issues. We have also been doing mindful colouring, yoga and lots of brain breaks to help stagger our sessions. We are proud of the students resilience and persistence as we wind up a big year!

Tennis Clinic

3B were very lucky this Thursday when they got the call up to partake in a Tennis clinic. As you can see by the photos, it was a hit!
