Preps’ Excursion to CERES

On Thursday 14th of November, our Prep students had an exciting and educational excursion to CERES (the Centre for Education and Research in Environmental Strategies). After hopping on the bus, they made their way to CERES and were warmly welcomed by the staff. Once they arrived, the Preps were introduced to their ‘home base,’ where they eagerly prepared for a day full of hands-on activities and fun.

As part of their learning in the Unit of Inquiry: 'My Family, My Culture', students gained valuable insights into Indigenous Australian culture. Throughout the day, they engaged in a variety of interactive experiences, including:

• Finger painting using ochre, where they learned about traditional Aboriginal art.
• A nature walk, tasting native plants like Lemon Myrtle, Saltbush, and Warrigal Greens.
• Role-playing the story of Tiddalick the Frog, where the children dressed up in costumes and retold the famous Indigenous tale.

The Preps also had the opportunity to explore CERES' beautiful environment, where they learned about traditional rock painting and symbols. They even finger-painted symbols on their bodies as part of this creative activity.

It was an action-packed day, and after all the excitement, the children were ready for a well-deserved rest!
