Principal's Report
As the year draws to a close, it's hard to believe there are only three full weeks left until we bid farewell to 2024. Reflecting on what has been a truly wonderful year filled with highlights, I am excited to attempt to summarise in our final newsletter in week 10. However, this week’s newsletter takes a different tone as we celebrate and acknowledge the contributions of several staff members who will not be with us at CGPS in 2025.
We are fortunate in our profession as educators to possess skills that are not only highly transferable but also increasingly in demand across the globe. A number of our valued team members are embracing exciting new opportunities beyond CGPS.
Please join me in farewelling Michael, Zoe, and Finn, who will be embarking on adventures overseas or interstate next year. Additionally, we celebrate the achievements of Bianca, who has accepted a leadership role in the independent sector, and Wei, who will be joining the Glenroy PS community.
On behalf of the CGPS community, I extend my sincerest gratitude to these exceptional professionals for their dedication to leading learning, inspiring our students, and building meaningful relationships within our school. Your contributions have left a lasting impact, and you will be missed.
We wish you all the best in your new ventures and look forward to hearing about your achievements and adventures in 2025 and beyond.
Keeping our students safe online
We all can support our children to safely navigate their digital world and educate them to avoid harmful online experiences. You can explore websites, games, apps and social media together and set some clear rules and boundaries.
Your support and guidance can give your children the knowledge to make sound decisions online and confidence to ask for help when they need it. It is also important to stay informed about online safety. The sSafety Commissioner site has some very valuable resources for families, including a section exploring Are they old enough? How to navigate key online milestones for your child which you might like to get further details relating to the above. Also, ahead of the proposed Government changes to age restrictions for social media, this could a great opportunity to reevaluate the access to social media your children currently have.
The Department of Education recognises this important issue and has developed fact sheets about supports to help keep students safe online and what to do if they are involved in an online incident.
The fact sheets contain links to evidence-based information on supporting positive and safe online experiences, signs a child or young person might need support, what to do if something unsafe happens online, and where to reach out to for more support.
