Principal's Message

Principal: Ken Darby

Assistant Principal: Meriden James

What an incredible day we had with our Colour Run! The energy was high, and the splashes of colour brought a really fun mood to the entire school. A massive thank you goes to Michelle Leckie for her dedication and superb organisation of this event, as well as to all the fantastic volunteers and Parents Association members who stepped in to make it such a memorable day. It was a true community effort, and we couldn’t have done it without you!

Thanks to the generosity of our community, we raised over $14,000 - funds that have gone directly to school improvements, including paying off the final balance of our basketball court upgrade. And, of course, a big thanks to the four staff members, myself included, who had the (mis)fortune of an ice bucket drenching! There’s research suggesting that a cold dip benefits circulation and mood… though I still need some convincing on that one!

Prep Transition Day Highlights

We also welcomed our newest future Preps for their very first transition day, and it was wonderful to see them exploring the school and enjoying a special lesson with their parents by their side. Miss Ross and Mrs. Cooper led a delightful session, and it was great to see how quickly our incoming students began to settle in and show excitement for next year. It’s always pleasing to see our school community growing and welcoming new families!

2024 School Performance Report

The 2024 School Performance Report brings positive news for Yarra Road Primary School, with an overall rating of “High” across both learning and wellbeing. Achieving this rating is something we’re very proud of, as it reflects our collective efforts to support students in reaching their academic and social-emotional potential. Our students are excelling in areas such as reading and emotional wellbeing, creating a strong foundation for their success.

While our report reflects much to celebrate, it also highlights areas for improvement. In Numeracy, we’re seeing progress, but there is still work to be done to ensure all students gain the skills and confidence they need.

The report also notes that our attendance rate falls below the average for similar schools. Regular attendance is essential for student learning and helps create a stable, connected school experience.

Upcoming Assembly Reminder

We’re looking forward to our next assembly on Monday (18th November), and it will be slightly longer than usual as we make up for the assembly we missed due to the large number of students away before Melbourne Cup Day. Please join us if you can!

With just six weeks left in what has been a very busy term and year, please keep an eye on key dates and events so you and your children don’t miss any of the excitement ahead.

Colour Run

Thanks for all those involved in our Colour Run - the families and the community were able to raise a whopping $14,000, which far exceeded our expectations! A huge thank you to Rachel Baum and the Yarra Road students who helped with the finishing banners and decorations on the day, and to the several parent helpers who assisted in making sure the event came together nicely - we are very appreciative of your time, particularly second time around, and we hope you also enjoyed yourself! Thanks to Michelle Leckie, Elissa Welson, Michelle Carmusciano and Danielle Marriot for working behind the scenes and to those who spent most of the day at school setting up last Friday. Your hard work did not go unnoticed throughout the year.

Special mention to the student helpers that all offered to help and were given tasks last Friday, it really felt like a team effort from staff, parents and students to get it up and running.
