A Word from the Principal

Ms Kylie Campbell

A warm welcome to our community

Sad News for Weeden Heights PS

I wish to acknowledge and express our sincere condolences to the Singh family on the passing of our long-standing business manager, Glynis Singh.  Glynis was my first BM when I arrived at WHPS 11.5 years ago.  Glynis absolutely loved Weeden Heights PS and she retired in 2015 after serving for 19.5 years.

On leaving our school I remember remarking that 19.5 years was a very long time to work in one place but Glynis told me that “she has loved every moment”.   I know exactly what she means now.  Glynis was our ‘go to girl’ and worked in the heart of our school administration.  She made outstanding (and now historic) contributions to our school serving in our canteen and as a member of the P&C (PFA of the day) as a parent and then later as a consistent visitor at our School Council while an employee.  She has watched our school grow and change and felt very proud of her contribution to our wonderful school.  I’m really sorry Glynis did not make our opening as she really would have enjoyed seeing our new space.

Vale Glynis Singh.

Capital Works Official Opening

Don’t forget that you were all sent an invitation to our school opening at 9.30am on Monday. Please let us know if you intend to come and watch so that we can put out a seat for you.  Our local MP will be in attendance on behalf of the minister and we will also have the architects and builders present.

Staying safe from mosquitoes

After floods and heavy rainfall, mosquitoes can grow and spread in the pools of water left behind.

While the overall risk is low, some mosquitoes carry diseases that are spread through mosquito bites. Mosquitoes are more active at dusk and dawn, but some will also bite during the day.

The best way to prevent mosquito-borne diseases is to avoid mosquito bites.

Families can protect against mosquito bites by:

  • covering up as much as possible with long, loose-fitting, light-coloured clothing
  • applying insect repellent that contains picaridin or DET on exposed skin when leaving home
  • limiting outdoor activity if lots of mosquitoes are active.

Mural

Our school mural is coming along beautifully.  If you did not see the students at work on Facebook/Instagram then please take a look. The beautiful wall represents all of our school values and has been specifically designed for our students and their school by the Australian artist, Kyle Brightside.  Kyle will be back in our school over the next two weeks to complete the outlining and shading on the mural.  It will look sensational!

PFA

On Tuesday we had a terrific PFA meeting and the team planned all of the events for 2025. While the focus is fundraising for the school, the PFA have also planned a main event each term.  Several of the events will bring our community together….something which we are really good at doing.

They are looking for parents to join PFA.  We have wonderful events planned for all students to enjoy and be a part of in 2025. If you would like to meet some wonderful parents and really become a part of the school community then please come along and join in with some laughs and assist the school.  The PFA also appreciates that people are very busy so even putting up your hand to help with an activity eg serving at the Bunnings BBQ would be a great support and assistance.

Thank you to our PFA for the wonderful things that you do to support our school!

2025 Fees and Parent Contributions

The fee and parent contribution documents and booklists were  distributed to all of our families.  The option to independently source your own materials and supplies is available but for your convenience, the PFA be will purchasing materials/the booklist for the school and do all of the hard work for you.   The option is yours but the students need all of the items from the book list and they need to be bought into school on the very first day.

We continue to have issues with parents sourcing their own material and books again this year.  It is absolutely critical that you purchase the correct size lines (which are actually dotted thirds) for the grade levels, maths grid books and the correct handwriting texts.  Next year we will return everything that is incorrect back to you (incorrect sizing, brand or style) and you will need to purchase or exchange for the correct items.

Thanks to our PFA who are trying to support our families and make the process much more convenient while saving money.

Whole School Transition Sessions

The school year is ending soon and one of the wonderful things that Weeden does is allow students to work in their class, classroom and potentially with their new teacher for a couple of sessions.  This allows for the teacher to begin some of the work for next year and establishing the new learning environment and connecting with new peers is the goal. The number one priority is to create a productive and positive learning community!

These transition sessions days are critical for students to be involved in.  Our sessions are being held during the last 2 weeks of school on December 6 and 10 from 9.30 to 11.00am.  These sessions provide students an opportunity to further strengthen their relationships with other students.  New students to the school will stay until 11.30am and leave after recess hopefully making connections with our students.
