Premier's Reading Challenge

On Wednesday, 20th of November, Anji and Harriet went to the Adelaide Zoo to celebrate being one of the top 55 achieving schools for the Premier's Reading Challenge this year. To be selected, we had to write why we should be chosen to go to the Premieres Reading Challenge. After we wrote our application, Sallie and Corinne chose who should go. On Wednesday, Corinne drove us to the zoo. While we were there, we listened to a presentation by the Minister of Education, the Hon Blair Boyer MP. He explained how reading is important for our everyday lives. He also said that he was proud of all the schools that were there. Then year eights performed a skit to us. They did a skit about 10 Minutes of danger, a book about 20 short stories of people in danger. After the presentation, were awarded some books to keep inside our school library, and we were awarded a framed certificate. We shook the Minister of Education’s hand, and walked back to our allocated seats. After that, we had some food and after that, Anji and Harriet were allowed to roam around the zoo with our parent volunteer, Stafford. Thank you for volunteering Stafford!

A note from Cheryl

A reminder about our participation in the Vinnies Christmas Appeal. It is awesome to see our hamper box filling up with imperishable goods, and a gift under the tree! On your next trip to the supermarket perhaps pick up something a family may enjoy eating together over the table, or some Christmas bonbons to brighten up their Christmas season. We are also collecting gifts for 10-15-year-olds, it would be great to see some goodies under the tree for these children who are perhaps less fortunate than some. They don’t need to be expensive gifts, just something special for them to enjoy (a hairbrush, toys, colouring books, supermarket vouchers or Target/K-mart/Big W vouchers are a simple easy idea so they might choose something they like). Leave your gift or imperishable goods in the hamper box or under the tree near the office.

End of Year Performance

We are almost at that time of the year again for our much-loved 'End of Year Performance'. This year we will have two performances on Tuesday 10th December, a matinee at 11am and an evening performance at 6pm.

Due to our growing numbers, this year we need to restrict the attendance at the evening performance for everyone's comfort and safety.  Each family will be given the opportunity to select 2 tickets to the evening performance only, with the exception of families of Year 6 students who will be allocated 4 tickets per family. Following the performance the Uraidla Football Club will be catering a BBQ- details to follow.  We will also have the Hokey Pokey ice cream van on site again.

In the coming weeks a link will be sent out via Seesaw and in the newsletter for families to book their night tickets.

We encourage all those that would still like to see the performance but are unable to be one of the two ticket holders per family to attend the matinee performance. No tickets will be required for the matinee; all are welcome.

It's shaping up to be another fantastic performance!

Parents and Friends

The Parents and Friends would like to welcome any new members to join our ranks! We meet Tuesday evenings at 7pm twice a term. Our next meeting is at the Primary School on 27 October at 7pm.  Come along and have fun while supporting your kids! 🙂

Here is some general information about Parents and Friends:

We are a group of parents and friends of the school, who share the vision of an inclusive and welcoming school community. We focus on activities that raise funds for the school for equipment and experiences and provide opportunities to bring everyone together and feel part of our community. Best of all we have a lot of fun and laughs while doing it.

We meet twice a term, and everyone volunteers to run or support different activities throughout the year. You can join the committee, or we welcome volunteers for events and activities.

P&F activities you can volunteer to help out with include:

  • Willow Café (run after assemblies, hot drinks and snacks)
  • Sausage sizzles for Acquaintance night/ end of year concert
  • Second hand uniform sales
  • Kytons Bakery sale
  • School Disco
  • Large events like the Colour Run/Art Show

To join, come along to a meeting (dates in the yearly planner) or email uraidlapandf@gmail.com to express your interest in helping out with events.

Uniform Ordering

Did you know our school uniforms can now be ordered through Flexi Schools? We have the whole range available for you to order through the Flexi schools app. Place your order online and we will get the order packaged and delivered to your child.

Alternatively, please come into the front office on a Monday or Friday for a viewing/fitting or to purchase.

Beanies

We have added a plain blue beanie to our school uniform range. Beanies are $12 each and available through flexi schools or the front office.

Enrolment in Reception

If you have a child turning 5 in the next 12 months, they should have already enrolled to start school.  Children either start school at the start of the year or in July, depending on their age.

Our school has now reached capacity, which means that we give priority enrolment to children in our catchment area. Please note that younger siblings of existing students are guaranteed enrolment.

If you are speaking to other families about enrolling in school, they can find their local school through the Find My School website: Find a school zone or preschool catchment area (education.sa.gov.au)

Enrolments for the start of 2025 should already be finalised, whether for the start of the year or mid 2025, for our staff planning.

Please contact the front office for a registration of interest form today!
