Wellbeing & Engagement Collection Survey (WEC)

Every year, students in years 4-12 across South Australia engage in the Wellbeing & Engagement Collection (WEC) Survey.

"The WEC asks students about their views on wellbeing and engagement with school.

The WEC provides the government and schools with information to support improving and maintaining students’ health, happiness, well-being and relationships.

It gives schools, the community and government an insight into what needs to happen to make sure students experience success and are provided with resources and opportunities to reach their full potential." - Department for Education

In this Wellbeing & Engagement edition, we'd like to present to you the 2023/24 WEC data specifically about 'Learning Readiness'

Our 2024 data indicates that we have improved in all three areas of this section of WEC including: learners feeling that they can persevere with tasks despite facing challenges; learners feeling they engage in and care about their learning tasks; and learners feeling confident about their academic abilities.

We are pleased with our school's improvement in this section and moving forward we would like to find further ways to improve our 'Learning Readiness' data.

Student Wellbeing Support Officer (SWSO)

The Student Wellbeing Support Officer (SWSO) supports the wellbeing of all students at LNPS. They are a part of the school’s wellbeing team and work collaboratively with the Assistant Principal for Wellbeing & Learning Support to achieve positive outcomes for all students.

This year, Amena Powell has continued in her SWSO position and has worked one to one with students and facilitated social skills programs during play times.

In 2025, we will continue with the SWSO program to continue to support the wellbeing of all students at LNPS. Students participate in the program one a voluntary basis and parent consent needs to be provided prior to Amena working one to one with any student.

The services provided by Amena include:

  • providing support  in areas such as student attendance, engagement and mental health
  • providing students with support in difficult situations such as during times of grief, or when students are facing personal or emotional challenges
  • supporting students and staff to create an environment which promotes the physical, emotional, social and intellectual development and wellbeing of all students
  • supporting students and staff to create an environment of cooperation and mutual respect, and promoting an understanding of diversity within the range of cultures and relevant traditions
  • organising recess or lunchtime activities to support the wellbeing of all students in the yard
  • case notes provided to classroom teachers at the end of every week summarising support provided and progress in relation to desired outcomes

Students can be referred for the program by their classroom teacher through the LNPS referral process . Written parent consent needs to be provided prior to any one to one work with students.

If you have any further questions about the program, please don't hesitate to email me on nikola.skrob844@schools.sa.edu.au
